Emily will prob need a wild card or special entry as she will still be in Egypt when qualifying starts. Can see Jasmine Katy and Manisha getting WCs also. Naomi will be in the main draw Sam might make it too.

Naomi, Sam, Jade and Jess Simpson have the wildcards at Preston.

I never seen these four girls live before so will be interesting

Naomi will make it in without the Wild Card so does it get given to someone else or is it just the next direct entrant? Maybe Emily will get it.

Naomi is 3rd in Qs, so will just miss out and need the WC.

QWCs not yet announced.  Katie Dunne (currently 5th Alt)  won't need one - 3 will move up to replace the MDWCs and 2 will move up to take the SE places as they won't be used as a Monday start to qualies.  Can think of several candidates for the others - the ranked players who haven't made it in plus Georgia C, Jazzamay, Grace D, Rona B and Emily Smith as one of our high rising youngsters.

Incorrect - there are only 20 places in the main draw and 4 wildcards and 8 qualifiers.

Of the 20 places in the main draw, there may be some SE's if players are still competing and will not make qualifiers in time - EWS?

Naomi was 21st on the acceptance list, so will not make main draw directly.

Still two days to go though I still think Naomi will be direct entrant.

Has Ward made it into qualifying yet?

Yes, Ward has easily made into the qualifying draw for Indian Wells. Cox is now up to 13th Alt and might just sneak in if he is willing to make the trip.

The freeze deadline is at 2pm today - i.e. in about 5 mins and Naomi is still 3rd in Qs.  Nobody is moved from Qs to MD or from Alts to Qs after the freeze deadline.  Any spare MD places are filled with LLs and Q places are filled with on-site alternates.

Not sure Emily would qualify for SE place.  Think she would have to be playing in a 25K or above this week to be considered.  Also think for 25Ks your previous tournament has to be within the same continent.  Think that she would qualify for a telephone sign in for Qs but not a main draw place.  Think her tourney finishing on Sunday and Qs starting on Monday is felt to be enough time to get there.

Note to more experienced posters - correct me if I'm wrong !!!!!

I don't think that can be true because I have often seen players who are 3rd or 4th Alt at the freeze deadline end up in the main draw as direct entrants and as far as I can tell, lucky loser places are only created if someone withdraws after qualifying has started, not if they withdraw in between the freeze deadline and the qualifying draw.

Assuming you based your post on ITF rule D3, I think that must just mean that no changes are made to entry lists after the freeze deadline for the purposes of applying late withdrawal penalties, e.g. if a player hasn't moved into the qualifying direct acceptances by the freeze deadline, they can't be penalised for not turning up for qualifying even if withdrawals after the freeze deadline mean they would have been a direct acceptance for qualifying.

Edit: In fact, reading on a bit, Rule D7 makes it clear that "unused Special Exempt places or known Main Draw vacancies (following withdrawals after the Freeze Deadline)" can be filled by players on the qualifying entry list. The detailed rules are at http://itf.uberflip.com/i/246310/0 - those players may not officially be direct entrants, but they appear on drawsheets as if they are, i.e. no (Q), (Alt) or whatever next to their names. (Alt) does appear on singles main draws sometimes, but only in the relatively rare cases where there has been a main draw withdrawal between the qualifying draw and the time play in qualifying starts, when it denotes a player originally in the qualifying draw who has been moved up.

Err. no Stephen I hadn't done anything as sensible as reading the rule book, but thinking about it you must be right.  Obviously at the moment they don't have any known vacancies apart from the SE slots, hence Naomi's WC.  If she moves up due to late withdrawals I guess they are free to allocate it to someone else.  What I said about Alts moving into Qualies holds though - they do go to on-site sign-ins, in the order they were on the alternate list - and then any who weren't on the list at all.

I think it mad that those sort of events aren't on the British calendar given the amount of players that could be competitive in them now.

Answering myself here, and not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere but the 8 futures events scheduled after the grass season are all now £15k events.  No challengers but, still a good move in the right direction.
