Interesting. I wasn't aware about the details, and that she had done it so often. But I was fairly sure that I had heard the commentators say that Elise had sucessfully gone from the front before so that she might have been considering that as an option again.
Nasty crash in the Bobsleigh from the Canadians which clearly helped the Brits.
I can't see GB pushing for a medal, they are close now, but will fall away.
Interestingly I remember officiating a British Athletics League match when Joel Fearon ran 10.18 and I was on wind gauge and it was illegal. It would have been a PB...
Well a great games come to an end. I've only seen bits of it- the free ski and snow boarding, sliding, and curling events. Not so much the skating.
As far as team go goes they did great equalling the record of 1gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze. Despite that, I feel we slightly underachieved and feel a tinge of disappointment, I take that to be a good think as I think this can really built on for stronger foundations in our better events,
Jenny jones was brilliant and it was a shame one of the boys couldn't just nail a run, but they did well.
Rowan Cheshire couldn't compete because of her concussion
Elise Christie, well, blew it really, high risk which unfortunately for her didn't pay off on this occasion
How much did jack whelbournes fall cost him?
The 4 man bobsleigh did great and with a fairer wind at their backs could have bagged a medal
Should really blue looking to blow that record away now in Pyongyang, especially if the funding keeps coming through
It is immensely frustrating that the NHL refused to shut down!
How myopic can you be as this was their opportunity to showcase some of the best athletes in world sport, they sprint on ice, have the physical strength, power and bravery of a rugby player and then play the most technical team sport there is, but who is Pavol Datsuk? Zendo Chara? Can you play hockey when your 69 the rest of the world will never know.
So we did get to see Datsuk and what a final, the Russians (with most of their stars) managed to equalise with a player in the bin and no goalie in the penultimate minute of normal time. Fabulous game and the Germans were heroic in defeat. Congratulations to Stephan Erhoff who lead an amazing performance on the Ice against the odds and quite rightly is carrying the flag at the closing ceremony
Great finish but what a missed opportunity. Gutted.
NB Chara is Slovenias greatest athlete a 6ft 9inch defenceman he comes across as a pacifist beautiful on skates and never fights, he did once ie. one time and the rest of the goons in the NHL realised it probably is not a good idea.
So here's the thing. Was this Russia or where they banned? Sure felt like Russia to me. IOC fudged it brilliantly. And Russia only had two of their doping free athletes caught for doping over the games. They should be very proud!
Should really blue looking to blow that record away now in Pyongyang, especially if the funding keeps coming through
Well the Pyongyang Games never did materialise, though the North Korean ice hockey cheer group were such fun. We may never get the chance to see such spontaneity on the huge scale of a home Olympics for them.
And GB did break that medals record. And to those who point to so many of our Olympics medals being won sitting down, just note the diversity here in that more than half our medals were won lieing down.
Well done troops, and Elise Christie says she's going to be in Beijing in 2022. I sincerely hope not to see her lieing down. I was going to say she deserves a break, but maybe rather just really wish her the best.
There is plenty of point if you are Canadian, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian etc... nobody asked the rest of the world to join in it's just most of the sports are such good fun to do that people will spend exhorbitent sums of money flying often half way round the world to do them.
Admittedly there is an increasing amount of padding but skiing, skating and sliding are pretty cool and not meaning to state the obvious so is snow, ask any kid.
Ice Hockey just doesn't get the exposure it deserves as a spectacle outside North America, Scandinavia and Russia, it doesn't translate that well to TV but at the highest level in the flesh and for better or worse you will see some, it is amazing. No handbags in the tunnel.
There is absolutely no coincidence that California has as many NHL teams (Sharks, Ducks and Kings) as it does NFL teams! One night in the Shark tank is enough to convert any sports fan to the fastest team game on the planet!
