Week 7 - ATP 250 - Memphis (Hard)

3 Brits in qualifying, believe it or not! All currently at college in the US, obviously.

QR1: Joe Salisbury WR 1574 (CH 1477 in Jul) v José Hernández (DOM) WR 291 (CH 287 in Oct)
QR1: (wc) David O'Leary UNR (CH 1498 in 2012) v (wc) Connor Glennon UNR (CH 1553 in 2012)

ITF H2H 1-0 - David beat Connor 0 & 4 in juniors way back in 2008.

Both Glennon and Salisbury are very capable at this level

Never seen Glennon but I have seen Salisbury a few times and always been impressed. He is a good serve and is great at net so if the courts here are quick he might pull off an upset or two.

Glennon is tall and has a very big serve, probably won't come into net as much as Salisbury though

Ah always nice to hear of more people with potential. Joe gets the double break and will serve for the match at *5-1

Which he does to love. Nice. smile 7-6(3) 6-1

Pretty big scalp for Salisbury then (but not entirely surprising). These under ranked college players are a nightmare to regular circuit pro's

Wow, didn't realise quite how high his opponent was ranked. Must be a career scalp for Joe?

When does he finish college?

Seem to remember him beating Olivetti (?) last year on the grass and he was around the 300 mark. I am sure the statos will correct me if I am wrong and fill in the details.

Olivetti was outside the top 300 at the time.

Just looked it up.  He was ranked 315 at the time, so this definitely is a CH scalp for Joe.  Pity he doesn't get a ranking point for it.

QR2: Joe Salisbury WR 1574 v (q6) Gastăo Elias (POR) WR 175 (CH 103 last May)
QR2: (wc) Connor Glennon UNR v (q7) Bobby Reynolds (USA) WR 179 (CH 63 in 2009)

Reynolds double bagelled Takura Happy in QR1 - presumably the Zimbabwean didn't live up to his name today

Salisbury and Ireland's David O'Hare have a wild card in the doubles, and have draw the Bryans in the first round!
