ace! 7-6* set point
return into the net 7-7*
Grigelis goes just wide *8-7 mini-break set point on serve
9-7 come on!!!

5-7 7-6(7)

My "come on!!!" reflects Ed's - not surprisingly, he wants this badly!

Very little to choose between them except that Grigelis has a bigger first serve, and just looking at the stats, they bear that out:

1st serves in 72% to Ed v 68%

Won on 1st 68% to 76%

Won on 2nd 52% to 54%

Bps won 30% to 29%

Well done Ed - nice comeback. Would love some Lithuanian bashing for a change.

Ed gets break points in the 1st game of the 3rd but can't press capitalise on the apparent change of momentum - the Lithuanian holds on.

My stream keeps buffering so that I miss points, C10s has the full story of that game:

"After missing out on MP, Grig's level flatlines. Corrie gets 3 BPs but lets him off the hook w/ routine UEs. Grig settles, holds for 1-0*."

Let's hope he doesn't live to regret letting him off the hook ...

Ed saves break point himself and holds for 3-3* in the 3rd. Grigelis looks more like winning (a bit more secure on serve and is serving first in this set) but it's very, very close.

It goes from 40-15 to deuce on the Lithuanian's serve, but he hangs on with a nice drop volley on the stretch to end the game.

Crunch time - Ed serving to stay in the match at *4-5

30-0 but then two great shots by Grigelis bring it back to 30-30 ... & a long rally in which the Lithuanian was always on top despite some great retrieving by Ed gives him another match point

"Grigelis wins it 75 67(7) 64 w/ BH pass of a Corrie drop volley on MP. Ed playfully tosses ball at Grig & they embrace. Great sportsmanship."

L16: (Q) Ed Corrie WR 324 lost to Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 244 (CH 183 in 2012) by 7-5 6-7(7) 6-4

Still, a very encouraging week

Unfortunately this match turned out pretty much as you would have expected. These two are evenly enough matched that it was always likely to be close but Grigelis just has that little bit more craft than Ed and he also has the very useful tendency of playing his best at the business end of sets.

Yes, that sums it up pretty well.

Still, Ed has shown this week that despite his patchy form in Futures early this year, he can step up to this level. Hopefully he'll mix Challengers and Futures from now on.

Hopefully he'll go for some ATPs in the future and draw Andy.

Well, probably not.

Corrie played some good quality tennis from the bits I saw of his matches this week. (Todays match availble here new.livestream.com/ATP/Bergamo2014CentreCourt ).
I must say that watching some of his matches in the us challengers last year i didnt think he was capeable at this level, but I think I stand very much corrected
