RE: Week 7 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Bergamo, Italy (Hard)

Fantastic result, and great way to follow up his win in the FQR. That's two higher ranked opponents he's bonced now, both in straights. Nice stuff Ed.

Is that a CH scalp?

Good stuff Ed! Served so well, played well. smile

Similar scorelines so far this week. 76 63, 75 63, 75, 62 and now 76 63.

Keep it going!

Great result and quite ironic given his relative poor results in futures so far this year.

Great win biggrin Just one place off a CH scalp!

Just to add a stat re. R2:

L16: (Q) Ed Corrie WR 324 v Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 244 (CH 183 in 2012)

They have met once before, in the semis in Glasgow last month, where the Lithuanian won 7-6(3) 6-3.

Time to end Grigelis' Brit bashing streak.

So more points than he would get for getting to a futures final.  Let's hope he is encouraged to keep trying Challengers.

From what I saw in the FQR, I don't think Corrie is out of his depth at challenger level like some have suggested, his serve and forehand are big as well as being solid in all other parts.

What a shame he has 18 points coming off this week!

Well, he'll just have to beat Grigelis & reach the quarters, then, won't he?  That would give him a total of 22... wink

And he's already earned more than he would have done by winning a futures (what with prize money and LTA bonus top-up added together, not to mention that the Futures top-up is capped.)

Excellent especially with so many points to defend. Much needed.

Time to bash a Lithuanian and bag some more points.

Be interesting to see the number of challenger wins by brits already this year compared to last. Seem to remember it was a very rare occurrence in the start of 2013

Brilliant result for Ed! Really pleased to see him put a bit of a run together at a challenger when they seemed to be his undoing last year. Tough ask to get passed the brit basher but never say never!
