RE: Week 7 - ITF ($10K) - Tinajo (Lanzarote), Spain Hard

Looks like Ellie is playing at a higher level than when she was struck with injury, which given she has so much fitness/ match rustiness that she can improve on, it bodes so well for the future. I mean we are talking about a talent who if injury free during her junior career would have challenged for slams and was considered a better hope than Laura ( didn't agree with that assessment, but even if its half right we are talking about someone with nailed on top 100 potential ).

Well I hope you are right, Phil. And thanks for the terrific report from Fed Cup.

Don't know if Ellie managed to come through her SF today, but if she did beat her opponent and the rain, just one win away from her second pro singles title. For the record that would be twice the number that Laura has achieved in her career to date.....with none in the last 6 seasons. I always struggle to get my head around that stat, but becomes more and more odd as every year comes and goes.

There are not too many GB players on the women's side who I can imagine holding their own at the very highest level one day, but Ellie is somebody who you really could.......hundreds of ifs and buts and maybes, but she certainly stands out a mile. Hope that didn't jinx her for the SF.

Time to let this one go korriban. Even you must realise that Laura could win a 10k if she wanted to.

That's not the point, SMC. I presume she wouldn't be allowed to enter a 10k, not that she would ever want to or need to. But she and her team have had complete decision making control over all the pro tournaments she has entered, singles and doubles  forthe last 6 years and I presume her objectives will have included "winning" for a good slice of those tournaments.

What is the difference between Laura and Kyle in this regard? Both are talented, very talented. But Kyle can string 5 matches together. IMO this is because he can win playing badly, which is an inevitable situation for all mortals to overcome in almost every tournament for a match or two, or across an hour or so in a particular match. Because he has nailed on basics of speed, athleticism, footwork and technique to fall back on.....just like Andy. Heather is almost certainly less talented than Laura, but she has those basics to fall back on, so wins her fair share of tournaments....,,hopefully this week yet another 2.

Would Laura win 10ks. Obviously yes. would she win 100ks or even 75ks? I don't know, but would you put your house on it, given 6 years of very clear evidence to warn otherwise?

Ms Dean was cited as having much of this in abundance before injuries got in the way, which is why she might have a pretty good shot.

Korriban, I'm not really concerned what the point is, but there's a limit to how many times you have to repeat it before we know your thoughts on the subject.

I'm not concerned about your concern. I repeat myself too much, you can be pedantic at times (5% of the time, 95% perfection). We all have our faults!
