She just must enjoy playing. Never going to get anywhere. Personally think it's time Emily joined Elena, Anne and Melanie and try something new in tennis. We have potentially a lot of juniors coming through so time to give them all support as we do but stop handing wild cards to anyone over 25 years of age. If our women have not made the grade by then never will. Give juniors a chance every time. Great to see E Dean back and look at her already.

Yes, I do think Emily really enjoys playing and travelling about and since I'm pretty sure she gets no LTA support beyond say use of facilities ( and I don't really know the score even on that ), why on earth shouldn't she continue playing professionally as long as she can afford to do so ( from whatever other source ) and is getting some sort of fulfillment ?

I seem to recall a little discussion on the forum about 3 years ago when some folk were trying to "retire" Emily, when she had reached the top 300, but in their eyes was then going nowhere and gawd she was 26 years of age. Some months later, in 2011, she was to reach her CH of WR 240 ( to what extent she ever "made it" is all relative, but she's been in the top 250 in the world and I imagine top half dozen in GB ).

She's clearly pretty well below that level currently ( and whether she'll see top 300 again must be rather doubtful), but she's not taking funding from others and I haven't got the impression WCs get exactly thrown her way.

So let her be, please ..

One of the few players whose twitter account I occasionally look at, just because she seems to have so much fun and to be so interested in (and have interesting comments on) what goes on around her. Long may she continue, if she so wishes.
