Week 6 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

Both Brits draw qualifiers, though Dasha gets one who is ranked higher than she is, presumably a late entrant.

L32: Danielle Konotoptseva WR 760 v (Q) Anastasiya Saitova (RUS) WR 675 (CH 597 in Sep)
L32: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 407 v (Q) Du Rui (CHN) UNR (CH 556 in 2004)

Du beat Eden Silva last week but I'd hope she wouldn't trouble Emily too much. In R2, Emily could meet last week's R2 victim again.

Dasha's loss was her 10th in a row but that's the most games she has got in one match during this unwanted streak.

L16: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 407 v Gai Ao (CHN) WR 600 (CH 581 in Sep)

H2H 1-0, Emily won 7-5 1-6 6-3 at the same stage last week

She then won 4 games in a row to recover the break and go a break up but has just been broken back again 6-4 4-4*... but now has another bp and takes it, so will serve for the match - 6-4 *5-4

Emily gets a match point but ends up getting broken 6-4 5-5*

The match has gone in runs of (mainly 3) games - 1 to Gai, 3 to Em, 3 to Gai, 3 to Em, 3 to Gai, 4 to Em up to game 17 but the last 4 games have been breaks.

Gai gets a game point to break the run of breaks, only to double fault, but then does hold after all so is now receiving for the set cry.gif 6-4 *5-6

30-40 break/set point ... saved by Emily ... but now Gai has another one, also saved ... and Emily ends up holding to get into a tiebreak - 6-4 6-6

Gai mini-break 1-2*
1-3*
*1-4 two holds in a row for Gai - ominous
ace from Em! *2-4
Gai mini-break 2-5*
Em mini-break 3-5*
*3-6 2 set points
Gai mini-break for the set

So they're going to 3 sets for the 2nd week running 6-4 6-7(3)

Emily had saved a(t least one) break point in the 9th game of the 3rd set but now Gai has another, and takes it, so will serve for the match 6-4 6-7(3) 4-5*

Gai serving for the match

0-15
15-15
15-30
15-40 2 bps
both saved (the scoreboard jumps to deuce)
Ad-in match point Gai

L16: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 407 lost to Gai Ao (CHN) WR 600 (CH 581 in Sep) by 4-6 7-6(3) 6-4

If we were Chinese fans, we'd be celebrating that as a remarkable comeback by Gai, from a set and a break down, match point down in the 2nd and a break down in the 3rd. Since we're not ...
