Davis Cup 2014 - World Group Quarter-Final - 4-6 Apr - ITA v GB

Italy v Great Britain

The venue is very hard to predict because Italy seem to do their best to avoid ever playing two home ties in the same place. However, it is virtually certain to be on red clay, though at least the timing isn't too bad - it will require a quick surface switch after Miami but won't require a switch back again afterwards because the main part of the clay court season starts the following week.

The carrot is a home tie against Switzerland or an away tie against Kazakhstan in the semi-finals.

Going on this weekend's activities, WR15 and 31. Should be well worth watching - I only hope the Beeb will have it on. Looking forward to it already

Go team GB!!!!!

This will be a really tough tie.

Best case scenario on day 1 is that we come out 1-1. Murray will be favourite against Seppi but it isn't an absolute certainty and it is pretty much inconceivable that our No2 beats Fognini. The Doubles is hard to call, we would probably be favourites but only just. On Day 3 Murray v Fognini is again a very close match up and if it goes to a fifth rubber Seppi would be favourite, although not overwhelmingly so.

You're in luck. The beeb announced last week that they will be showing all of GB's World Group matches for the next 3 years...so unless they decide to be especially annoying they will be showing this next one.

GB have moved up 7 places to 11th in the new Davis Cup rankings and Italy up 1 to 8th (the US drop 1 to 7th)

Confident with Leon smith at the helm

A great captain & powerful motivator with the courage to make tough decisions

If Andy wins 2 again confident can win the doubles

We'll win this 3-1 again... Andy may even be fit enough by then to play three matches don't forget. Especially with Leon Smith at the helm!

I agree with Gary that I think we will be favourites for the doubles, so a lot dependant on Andy in singles, particularly against Fognini if he is playing ( although noone discount James ! )

Although still quite early doors after his op, Andy was maybe fit enough already to have played doubles against the US. It just didn't seem to make sense at 2-0. I reckon he may well have played if it had been 1-1.

Unless Colin and Ross have really hit very good form unexpectedly quickly ( and maybe even then ), unless we are 2-0 up vs Italy, I reckon he will play doubles. He will probably only not play doubles if we have two doubles specialists in the team and are again 2-0 up.

Expected to be Rome, then I saw a tweet from Dicko saying Naples, then one from the Harmanator saying Rome again.
If it's Rome there should be a huge turnout from GB fans, maybe as many as 400/500 possible. It certainly was all the chat at the FedCup.

Could be a group of us traveling from Spain as well.

NAPLES IT IS.

There's a group travelling out from the AndyMurrayFanForum - about 20 so far.
I'm guessing the BATS will be there and the Topspin group too (Tim Henman fans).

If anyone (as in lone traveller) wants to join our group we'd make you very welcome.
The LTA don't offer a total package of ticket/hotel/travel but appoint Traveleads to come up with a hotel/travel package.  So, you can wait see what they come up with (likely to be more expensive) or book flights and hotels yourself.

Tickets are from the LTA only or via nominated group bookings (as listed above).   Prices yet to be confirmed but I think as a group we get a slightly better deal and end up paying much less in booking fee.

The group that went to San Diego had a fantastic time and Europe is making it much easier for many more to go and cheer on the lads. Whatever the team is I reckon they've a great chance of beating the Italian mob!

There may be a group of us travelling from Spain that may require just tickets. I will know more in a week or so.

I'm tempted - Easyjet fly out of Liverpool on a Thursday, return on a Monday.

Make sure you have adequate health insurance if you plan on attempting to cross any roads!
