RE: Week 6 - Portugal F1 ($10,000) - Vale Do Lobo (Hard)

Yes. Let's hope Oli can blow off any early season cobwebs and make a good run this week. Hoping for semi at least. If he gets that far, there is a strong chance that I will go down to Portugal for that one on Saturday, as I can tie that in with watching some of the Brits in qualies for Portugal F2 which is just up the road. Having said that, Evan is down to play qualies there next week but he withdrew today in the Wirral. Hope he is OK.

Weather is also a factor in my decision making. Long way to go to watch the rain come down.

Gil is certainly going to provide a very interesting challenge. I have no idea what level he is at though, having not played for quite a while. Last I heard he was struggling with weight problems, but that was a good year or so ago.

Given that Matt Short took 8 games off him yesterday, you would have to say that Oli definitely has a chance, although I know that every day is different for any player.

Judging by Oli's tweet this morning, it appears that there are going to be more delays today. There are still a couple of R1 matches that haven't been completed. I am really hoping to get down this weekend, but the forecast is pretty dire for Sat & Sun, so it may not be worth the trip. It will have to be a last minute decision.

On a different note, there is a young unranked French player by the name of Thibault Forget who will gain his first point this week. Do we know if he is related to the other "Guy" ?

He definitely has a son called Thibault, born 1995.

So guess so !

Thanks CD, Steven.

This board is such a fountain of knowledge and I never cease to be impressed.

So here's another one for you. If Oli gets through against Gil today (weather permitting, his potential quarter final opponents are either J Pulgar Garcia or J Pulgar Garcia. Have to say I thought it was a typo when I first read it, but of course one is Jaime and the the other is Javier. Given the identical birth dates, I am going to assume they are twins.

I wonder how many other pairs of twins have played against each other on the circuit - Bryans Bros ? Did they ever play singles ?

PS Only answer if you are totally bored and have nothing better to do. It isn't really that important.

According to the ATP site, they have never played each other above Challenger level: Mike leads Bob 2:1 at that level. I'll leave the question of other twins to the stattos!

The Bryans' parents didn't want them to play against each other. In juniors, they would alternately default if a "twins match" came up: www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Top-Players/Bob-Bryan.aspx
