I'm no Dan apologist, but why is everyone ruling out the possibility that Leon told Dan that he wasn't going to pick him and that is what caused Dan to home in a strop (or even with Leons blessing).
Mike Dickson first reported this story and while he isn't the best of journalists he doesn't tend to make things up. More importantly I would have thought that if his story hadn't been fairly close to the mark that Leon would have put the record straight, even if it was via an off the record briefing to another journalist.

He may not have made things up, but different journalists have put different slants on the same story and Mike is definitely not an Evo fan. I had a brief Twitter exchange with him last year when he said Dan's omission from the previous DC tie (before he was a late call-up), was down to his "decline". At the time I said Evo wasn't in decline and I predicted a CH by mid-year. It took a couple of weeks longer than I expected, but most of us could see Evo was on the way up.
Sorry, but apart from that like others I'm not sure that Evo was ever ahead of James as the likely selection, that does a huge disservice and lack of respect for what James achieved on Day 1.
Querrey was not at his best and certainly imploded when the pressuee was really on, but there were no "cheap points" in San Diego for Evo or possibly any points at all, even if he was there and selected.
Anyway, as has been said, especially if Evo does well here, in possibly less than ideal circumstances ( and yes, we don't really know the full story ), it may work out pretty well all round.
I make no pretence of not often having an air of sceptism regarding Evo ( though little about his ability when fully focussed ), but the fact that he has turned up here playing relatively well, and apparently with LTA coaching backup, is encouraging.

I have to say I was a bit surprised at first by Paulisi's comment about "cheap points", but having read it a couple of times, I took it to be a bit of "tongue in cheek" humour.
And 0 points for being selected in the four but then not actually playing. . .ok, back to the topic. Dan's match is 4th on centre court, play starting at 11am local which I think is 10am here - somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
10pts for getting picked and losing is more than quails for ATP tour, hence cheap points.....
Actually it's 12 points for qualifying. And given he probably wouldn't have been first choice anyway, any points gained this week would be more than the alternative.

And with how the draw is if Dan qualifies he will have a first round match where he at the very least he should be competitive, not to mention the $4,385 prize money for making the main draw. In any event 10 points is next to nothing for a player who has aspirations to be in the top 100.

The 2nd match started about 25mins ago so Dan will be playing in 3/4hrs time?
Can't follow it as I'll be on a long drive from Worcs to Hants.
OK, paulisi, I now get that you were thinking about the 10 points for losing a DC rubber ( which I had temporarily forgotten about ) rather than the 40 points for beating Querrey. So, apologies for my rant re James win, and that was my toned down version !
But even the 10 points comes with qualifications that many have pointed to. In particular I don't think he would ever have played a live rubber.
