RE: Week 6 - ATP 250 - Zagreb (Hard)

Evans wins the opening point but then loses 4 in a row, Haas punishing a 2nd serve, then coming up with a fierce forehand pass that Dan can't handle, Evans careless forehand into the net then another long on bp 4-6

Regardless of how this set goes, Evo has backed up the belief that he can mix it with the best this week, still love to see him find that extra 10% right now though!

Haas unable to find a backhand pass on either of the opening two points then a wild forehand as DE holds to love 2-2

Haas' volleys give him a comfortable hold *2-3

Stakhovsky actually won here as a lucky loser in 2008. He was the first lucky loser to win an ATP title since 1991 and the 4th ever.

There goes Haas' racquet. Evans has saved four BPs in this game so far.

But he finally breaks on the fifth and that could be that. cry

2-4*.

3 poor forehands get DE in trouble at 15-40. Two unret first serves save him. DE's volley is too short allowing Haas to find a super forehand pass for bp. Haas has a chance but puts his forehand just wide. An unreturned first serve saves another bp. Then some huge returns from TH get him another bp. DE's bh pass strikes the net. 2-4

DE goes for a big bh dtl at 40-30 but misses. *2-5

Some lovely touches from Dan as he keeps the match alive 3-5*

A nice lob from DE but otherwise Haas on top as he wins 3-6

Dan played some inspired tennis in the opening set but couldn't sustain it, while Haas seemed more aggressive throughout the 2nd and 3rd sets.

A very good week and a huge number of positives from this match. No shame at all in coming up just short against Haas. I for one won't begrudge Evo a drink or two over the weekend.

Pity, but what a high quality match today, and what a week overall - 18 sets played (no wonder he withdrew from Quimper!), 11 of which he won. Seems worth a recap:

QR2: (q3) Dan Evans WR 146 beat Karol Beck (SVK) WR 334 (CH 36 in 2005) by 4-6 6-3 7-5
FQR: (q3) Dan Evans WR 146 lost to Björn Phau (GER) WR 359 (CH 59 in 2006) by 3 & 4

L32: (LL) Dan Evans WR 147 beat Jan Hájek (CZE) WR 106 (CH 71 in 2006) by 3 & 1
L16: (LL) Dan Evans WR 147 beat (Q) Michael Berrer (GER) WR 148 (CH 42 in 2010) by 1-6 6-1 7-6(4)
