RE: Week 6 - Challenger ($50,000) - West Lakes, Australia (Hard)

Reid of course fresh off winning the Burnie challenger yesterday.

When does Cam start college?

R1: Bradley Mousley (AUS) & Cam Norrie CR 1787 (654+1133) defeated Toshihide Matsui & Danai Udomchoke (JAP/THA) CR 525 (272+167) by 3 & 4 biggrin
R1: Maverick Banes & Gavin van Peperzeel (AUS/AUS) CR 1103 (665+438) defeated (4) Brydan Klein & Boy Westerhof (NED) CR 360 (163+197) by 5-7 6-4 [10-5] bleh

The Klein/Westerhof partnership doesn't seem to be working.  Cam & Bradley will almost certainly face Matt Reid & John-Patrick Smith (1) in the QF...

Centre Court here is being streamed ... but for some reason they've put last week's champ on Court 4

Cameron up and running vs. Matt Reid, took the 1st game on his serve, though it went to deuce.

Decent start from Cam - he had to fend off a break point in that first game but had made 63% of 1st serves so far, winning 83% of the points when his 1st serve goes in and they are both making similar inroads on each other's 2nd serve.

3-2*

Wow ... Cam breaks! *4-2

Cam serving for the 1st set ...

30-30

30-40 break point

saved

another bp

saved again

ad-in set point

yes!

6-3 - he took 1/1 bps and saved 4/4

I had a feeling when I saw the draw that it wouldn't be as one-sided as you might expect given the rankings gap and Reid's form. It's still going to take some doing to win this though.

Then again ... 6-3 1-1* 3 break points!

1 saved

2nd serve ... double fault!

6-3 *2-1

Holds to 15 and at 0-15 in the next game, he has won 13 of the last 15 points!

I wan't sure. I knew Reid lost a 16 year old in the AO wildcard playoff recently. But then thought he might have turned a corner and be feeling good after his big win last week.

Come on Cam!

Reid holds from 15-30 but Cam then holds to 15 to go 6-3 4-2* up

..

Reid holds to love and suddenly has 3 bps having won 7 points in a row.

1 saved ... but he takes the 2nd

6-3 4-4*

..

Wow - Cam breaks again and will serve for the match!  6-3 *5-4

15-30 .. 30-30 massive point coming up ..

40-30 match point!

...

Well, wham bam, thank you Cam! (igmc) A massive career best win by over 100 places!

L32: (Q) Cameron Norrie WR 976 beat (6) Matt Reid (AUS) WR 183 (= CH) by 3 & 4

Having virtually doubled his points this week (10 (3+7) to add to his previous 11), Cam should jump over 170 places to around WR 800

A great win! biggrin

Given Cam was born in NZ, raised and educated in NZ, has a NZ passport, played for NZ having been trained and supported through the NZ national tennis system, and following a brief period in GB to train under the LTA as a Brit, has now returned to NZ to make his home........shouldn't one reasonably expect that we will "lose" him at some point?

Dangerous proposition reading too much into what players do (or do not) tweet but he did tweet last year that he was "in nz finishing school", possibly/presumably with US college in mind? So not necessarily going back just to make his home. Though of course maybe he will, who knows. Haha.
