Those of you that follow me on Twitter (@expattennisfan) will already know that throughout 2014, I am trying to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. It is a charity that our club here in Spain has supported for about 5 years now following the loss or two of our members - Peter Willis and Mike Pritchard - through cancer and within the space of just a couple of months. MacMillan is the chosen charity of Peter and Mike's family, who still have strong connections with our club.
Our fund raising efforts include an annual week-long charity tournament, and also regular raffles with a variety of prizes. Last year's star prize was a signed Davis Cup T-Shirt, kindly organised by Leon and Beechy, following the victory over Russia in Coventry. That shirt alone raised almost £400 last year. I have put a picture below of Kyle presenting me with the shirt in Coventry.
This year, I have set myself a personal challenge in an effort to raise further funds. My challenge is as follows:
I plan to walk/run/cycle a total of 12.000km in 12 months
I would really appreciate any assistance in publicising my challenge in an effort to increase the level of funds raised. I have set myself the target of raising £5.000 during the year. For people who want to donate, I have set up a webpage through JustGiving.com. Here is a link.

The beauty of this website is that people can have 100% confidence that any donation is going directly to the charity. If you are willing to help, please pass this link to family, friends, members of your tennis club etc, or add the link to any Social Media sites you may have. I post regular updates on the website and also on my twitter account which people are also welcome to follow.
As of today, I have already completed 1.150km so I am ahead of schedule on that count. More importantly, I have already received donations or pledges to the value of £214.
Thanks you in advance for any help you are able to give.
Just wanted to say a quick thank you to those who have donated to MacMillan as part of my challenge. I am guessing a couple of the anonymous donations I have received recently may also have come from here.
I passed the 2.000km mark last night so I am still about a week ahead of schedule. My legs are doing OK but I have a somewhat sore "saddle" from all the cycling
It has been a while since my last update and we have now reached the half way mark time wise. At the end of June, I had completed 6751 km and have since gone beyond the 7000km mark. The old peg-legs are really struggling now and the ice packs are getting to know my knees rather to intimately, but I am determined to see this through.
From a fund raising side, we have now raised almost £700 for MacMillan Cancer Support and with a couple more club fund raisers to be held before the end of the year, I am confident that we will reach the £2000 target that I set at the start of the year.
Since my last post, I know others on here have donated, so thank you to ALL that have.
Please keep trying to spread the word and point people to my website at www.justgiving.com/bob-in-spain
A great challenge to set yourself Bob, well done. Has this had an effect on the old waistline...............if so maybe I could benefit from your resolve!

Surprisingly (and sadly) not much. That was definitely a part of the motivation this year, but I think the exercise has been compensated for by some excessive "carbohydrate loading".
As I know this is a big Fundraising Weekend for MacMillan Cancer Support, I thought I would give my Charity Challenge a little plug. With just over three months to go, I have completed 9,250km of the 12,000km target, so I am still ahead of target. However, the last month has been very difficult. Work commitments and the lack of a bike here in Brazil, have meant that I have struggled to keep the momentum going. Whilst I am still ahead of schedule unless I can resolve the "bike" situation, it is going to be hard to complete the challenge. I am working on it.
This next week is an important week at our tennis club (Orihuela Costa Tennis Club) as we run our annual Willis Pritchard Charity Tournament on behalf of MacMillan. I am flying back to Spain for a few days to take part. Last year, we raised over 1000 during this week alone. I am hoping we can match (or even better) that this year.
If anyone would like to donate, they can do so here.
Well, my Charity Challenge is complete. This afternoon, I finally completed my 12.000km of which 3.686km were done on foot and the remaining 8.314km were done on a bicycle of some description. Even better news is that I have finished a day early, so I can have the day off tomorrow.
I know that some posters from here were kind enough to contribute to the £1000 we have managed to raise for MacMillan Cancer Support. Thank you. I know they will put the money to good use.
If anybody else wants to donate, there is still time. You can do so at www.justgiving.com/bob-in-spain
So, am I going to start again on January 1st to do another 12.000km ? Not b****y likely.
Thanks again for all the support both here and through Twitter.
Happy New Year.
