Here's hoping I don't get banned for my taste in music - I love Westlife! I went to a concert in Manchester when I was home for Easter and loved it. I've adored them since they started and no one else comes close!

I also like Coldplay, James Blunt err and older bands like The Beach Boys and The Beatles... lots of stuff, but Westlife are top of the list!

I'm more likely to get banned for my taste in music, lol !

I like Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, the Kinks + stuff from the '50s [how sad, lol !] like "Magic Moments" and "Raindrops keep falling on my head." I used to run my own ensemble to play at weddings, social functions etc and we rehearsed by entertaining the elderly at retirement homes [and collecting for charity at the same time] and we arranged popular songs from the '50s.

Westlife are good, I heard them on the TV last year and thought they were great.

Apparently James Blunt's surname is actually Blount but for some reason he changed it.

i do like some 60's stuff's, more individual songs than bands tho, i prefer stones to beatles.

as i have got older my music taste has chnaged so much and really widened from black metal to some hip hop, its hard to pin down now, strange that i dont really go to concerts or music festivals now which i used to do a lot.

A lot of things to answer here!

Thank you Madeline! Call me Julia! I have been lurking here for a while - true and i do try and visit as much as possible. In actual fact been a fan of Murray since the start of January 2005 but have been on other fan sites.

The Smiths.... ahhhhh!

1982 - 1987 British rock band. Lead singer - went solo after the split and known as Morrissey! Surely you have heard of him!

Amazing band. The lyrics are amazing.. Morrissey and Johnny Marr composed their own music for the Smiths and what music it was!! Odd i guess how i was only born 4 years after their split, but remains to say that it doesn't matter how old a band are - if they're legendary they will live on through generations!

Count Zero - LOL no they don't count as modern pop. Morrissey went solo after the split and he still does concerts and released his new album only a few weeks ago (AMAZING). It's sort of alternative rock - although as any Smith fan would say - it's the Smith genre!

Akhenaten - How Soon Is Now is a great song but not the best. If you like that im sure you will love a lot of their other stuff!

UltimateSlabbaFan - Don't be ashamed of your music taste! It's not sad. The Kinks, Simon and Garfunkel are very good! To be honest im not into modern music myself. I only listen to a couple of modern bands like Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay and The Bravery. Guess i've got a bit of an odd music taste. . . I also like U2, REM, The Who - but again, they come back from the 80s and earlier!

Hah! OK - sorry for that mamoth post! I will limit myself next time!

Ummm David if you are around. If my over-excessive use of emoticons is not doing any favours to band width - - tell me!

Personally, I think How Soon Is Now? is the best Smiths song.  It's sound is so much bigger than most of their stuff.  I completely agree Morrissey is a fantastic lyricist, but I've never thought their music matches that.  I actually prefer Morrissey's solo work to the Smiths.  Your Arsenal and I Am The Quarry are fantastic albums - the lyrics are as great as always, but the music on those two albums is fab too.

I'm a bit of a music nut. I'm going to see the Streets tomorrow night, which should be good.

I think David Bowie is the greatest of all artists.

Probably followed by Beatles, Pet Shop Boys, Prince, Pink Floyd, Carter USM, Blur, U2, Elvis Costello, Kinks, Divine Comedy, Happy Mondays, Sex Pistols, Chuck Berry, Blondie, Spiritualized, Rolling Stones, Depeche Mode, Killers, Scott Walker, Prodigy, Bobbie Gentry, Faithless....... I could go on and on, but I better stop there....

How Soon Is Now? by The Smiths recently came 2nd in MTVs greatest lyrics poll...
I am the sonAnd the heirOf a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and the heirOf nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way I am Human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does There's a club, if you'd like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go, and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home And you cry And you want to die
(Morrissey - 1985)

i'll be damned. i went through my teenage years (with a daffodil in my back pocket) thinking he was saying he was the SUN and the AIR. thanks for the headsup.
and to all those people who say they like coldplay; please stop saying it.

ahhh must have been amazing to be a teen in the years of the smiths! *sooo jealous!*

haha! morrissey and johnny marr made daffodils into something a bit more... than just daffodils! LMAO - it's quite easy to mistake the lyrics. i've seen couple of interviews with morrissey from when he was with the smiths and his language is so odd compared to now. he was one interesting person in the 80s....

as for Coldplay. umm they are something special in the world of music today. not to offend anyone but today's music is NO WHERE near as good as it used to be - apart from 2 or 3 bands. and coldplay fit into that exact category. chris martin is quite a legend - not just for his music.

Don't worry Julia, we've got a lot of bandwidth here so you can use as many emoticons as you want, there's a great variety of them so why not use them !!!

By the way, I [UltimateSlabbaFan], am David !!!

*major bump*

Might aswell say... It's 'emo', hardcore (the punk kind not the dance kind, eugh) and punk. Doubt any of you know any of the bands I listen to, but my favourite one is Thrice. Another few are Emery, Anberlin, hellogoodbye, The Ataris, Paramore, Further Seems Forever, Atreyu, Dead Poetic, My American, Halifax and many others.

Thought I'd share it with you all. Also here's my last.fm page:
