It's not often you get this strong a field for a 10K in Sharm - no doubt it's because there isn't much else on offer this week. Emily has a very kind R1 draw though - Manchanda has played 20 singles sets on the ITF Pro Tour and lost the lot, averaging less than 1 game per set!

Yes, much tougher than July-December 2013 series of events (though I think some of the earlier ones in 2013 were of a higher standard). After a gentle opener (which Em will hopefully come through barring some catastrophe) she does have the likely opponent of Kalabina who reached the SF of the 75K held in Sharm at the end of 2013, so that will be a good clue to as to how Em is playing at the moment.
Eden must feel really miffed at seeing a player like Manchanda straight into the MD with a WC, esp as she is not Egyptian, while she herself has had 3 tough weeks in qualifying and not yet come through.
Sadly Em's run came to an end in straight sets against the diminutive Russian. She had 11 BP chances but only took 2. Still a solid-ish start to the year, and chance to build on this performance next week.
