Gutted for Jade but she had enough opportunities to put that away. Sore one. Especially one of the doubles on match point

Funnily (or not so funnily) enough, Jade had 17 dfs to Savinykh's 2 - the difference of 15 exactly matches the difference in the total points won.

It's never good to lose after having 5 match points, but you can't really fault her fighting qualities - remember, she was a set down and in the 3rd set, the Russian (who is higher-ranked than Jade and has been top 100) served for the match twice. It was just desperately, desperately close.

Well this puts it a bit more into perspective ...

Jade: "That was painful. Put everything into that and she wins off a net cord 12 10 in third #swearwords"

... and more to the point:

"Unfortunately I tore my stomach muscle off a smash first set so serving was non-existent. Really hope not too serious, scan tomorrow."

That seems an absolutely tremendous effort by Jade against a very decent player ( who I hope and trust wasn't injured herself ).

Jade's own serving stats are certainly so much more understandable after her tweet and I would imagine that the injury had other effects.

Presumably Jade would have withdrawn if she had won and really the most important thing is that she is playing again asap, particularly with so much potential for significantly further improving her ranking over the coming months.

Gutted ( may be a particularly apt word here ! )
