The poor French girl. I hope she still enjoys her visit to Glasgow.

yes, you've got to feel sorry for Miss Christmas. And two of the other French girls have been drawn against each other so I bet they're not best pleased either . . .

On a Francophonic linguistic tangent; I can find no indication of her surname with the diæresis above the 'e'.

Is she still Miss Christmas therefore, or simply a more prosaic Miss in the vein of Gallagher, Coward, Fielding or, *shudder*, Edmonds?

On the French sites, there are some references to her with the 'two dots' although most are without. I'm sure they are either there or should be and just get dropped (or have got dropped) for convenience over time - lots of people leave off the accents when registering official things, like at the doctors or their tennis licence.

Hardly a Christmas gift for her! While (of course) hoping that Ms Moore wins, I do hope the other young woman acquits herself decently. Facing a ringer could be dreadful if you're blown off the court but equally actually rather inspiring if you manage to hold on and think "Maybe I could do this ...."

To be honest I think it is about time the ITF change the rules to stop this happening. If you are ranked high enough that you would have made the main draw you should not be allowed to sign in for qualifying or receive a qualifying wild card. It is completely unfair on players who travel to a tournament this size to come up against a player of Tara's ability in qualifying.

I agree with RJA. Tara should have entered in the first place rather than get in this way. I appreciate she may have been trying to qualify in Oz but with that being the case she shouldn't need to play this 10k. I can't see any benefit to playing a 10k a few days after returning from a day long flight. Especially when you consider she is ranked way above any o the other players and there is a 25k the following week which she is playing.

Yes, I agree. Top seeds in qualifying who would have been seeded in the main draw had they entered on time seems to be an all too common occurrence. They end up at little or no disadvantage for entering late, but it's a huge disadvantage for the players who draw them. Of course, if Tara is badly jet-lagged, the French girl may find all her Noëls (I found examples of her name with ë too btw - I tend to do a quick native language search when I'm checking for accented characters) coming at once ... but I hope that doesn't happen here and I don't think it will.

You can't blame players like Tara for entering qualifying like this when they are given the possibility of doing so without breaking any rules (and no doubt they often have genuine reasons for not having entered then changing their minds, especially if they aren't 'serial offenders' - you probably know who I mean there and it's not one of the female players!), but it seems very unfair on the others.

The problem is, of course, that many tournaments (especially the higher-level ITFs that try to attract spectators) wouldn't want to turn away potentially good players who have failed to enter on time, but maybe such tournaments should have to get used to holding a main draw wild card back until the last minute just in case - that would be a bit unfair too, but not as unfair as players who have entered and made the trip ending up in a section with someone far better than they could ever have reasonably envisaged meeting in qualifying.

Of course, it's possible to meet someone far too good to be in qualifying simply because they are very under-ranked (eg. a fast-rising junior or a top player just back from injury) but that's an unavoidable risk and doesn't mean this loophole shouldn't be closed.

Nice to see Nicola winning matches and Grace is good enough to make main draw and win the odd match. Dominique seems to get through qualifying, but no further.

I expect Tara, Lauren, Dominique and Grace to qualify.

When Tara qualifies will she be seeded 1 or is the draw before quails have finished?
