RE: Week 3 - Great Britain F1 ($10,000) - Glasgow (Hard)

Ed trying to do what none of the other Brits in Glasgow (male or female), apart from Tara, have managed so far today, namely beat the 'pesky foreigner', takes the first set 6-3 against Nico R. (the practically Scot Frenchman)

Early scoreboard malfunction for the Rice v Pauffers match. Dave was 15-40 on his serve in the first game. Scores are still showing 0-0 in games but Pauffers is now 0-40 on HIS serve.   confuse

Edit

Scoreboard now showing 1-1 which makes more sense. Let's not go into the stats that are showing though. I am already confused enough.

Poor Jonny seems to pick up a freak injury every few months or so. Horrible way to start the year.

Sam Hutt is 2-2 against Grigelis

And we have a winner. Ed takes his match against Rosenzweig by 6-3 6-1.

He only needs about another 299 wins by the end of March to match last year and protect his points.

Marzi has broken and will serve for the match at *5-4 in the 2nd set against Dan S.

Edit - cancel that

Yet another scoreboard malfunction I presume as the scores have now been reversed. We are still on serve in the 2nd set. Marzi to serve at *4-5

Not unexpectedly:

R1: Joe Gill & Bruce Strachan CR 2850 (1425+1425) "defeated" Richard Gabb & Jonny O'Mara CR 1328 (326+1002) by a walkover

Like everybody else, I hope Jonny's ankle injury is none too serious.

Didn't expect that result from the Gabbster.

I don't see it that way Gabb in my opinion is a bit over ranked at present there at least half a dozen better British players below him in the rankings at the moment.

Yeah, you might be right but shame it wasn't one of the 'half dozen better British players below him' that beat him, but a Dutchman, also below him . . . cry

Disappointing result from Richard Gabb.

But looking at his results from the second half of last year, I do think that it is pretty arguable about him being ovrrranked ( WR 442 ). He seemed to be very competitive with players in the 300s and 400s, winning a good share, with his ranking on a generally upwards trajectory.

I agree. He acquitted himself pretty well when trying out challengers too. He hasn't got a power game but kept posting up very solid results, as you say, very consistent with his ranking. Maybe some people just find it harder to get going than others in the new season.

The courts here are very fast here aren't they? Coupled with it being the first week of the season it should mean some surprise results.

Never seen him play, but from what I've heard about it I doubt it suits Gabb's game.

Good effort from Josh Sapwell in what I think is his first senior event. 5-5 in the third against Coupland. Seems to have had a lot of break points saved by Coupland aces, at least whenever I was watching the score.

No joy for JWH, but GB players through:

Toby, Dan S, Ed, Ricey, Tom F, Ash and either George or Josh who are in final set tie break

George won the TB 7-2

Rice & Thornley being given a tough match again the very good Scottish pair.
