Perhaps Kyle just overslept this morning. 9.30am start is a bit early
I was wondering the same thing, now there's starting slow and there's starting slow. Very early start after a late finish the day before, maybe a possibility.

I remember when he was in La Manga with the training squad a year ago, they had an early start on the Saturday as they were playing 5 setters. Kyle was playing Pauffers who bagelled him in the first set, but Kyle came back to win in 5. That was on my mind throughout the second and third sets today, but I didn't want to jinx him by saying anything.
Let's be honest, if they are starting at 9.30am, and they want their warm up and their pre-match intake of carbohydrates etc, it may well require a 6am rise. And as you said, a late(r) finish yesterday following the rain delays may have all played a part.
Just glad he won.
And thanks to Steven for the text. I was driving when it "pinged" on my phone. Somehow I not only guessed it was you (I hadn't seen your post here) but I also assumed that you WOULDN'T have texted me if Kyle had lost. So I was smiling all the rest of the way. The confirmation when I read it was still good though.
In a Harmanesque twist (ok, it's not bad news about British tennis or particularly complimentary to the tweeter concerned, but hopefully you know what I mean), the tournament's account has retweeted my retweet of their tweet. That's a first ...

Good comeback from Kyle, although bizarre first set.
Wolmarans is a very tricky tie, didn't realise he had fallen as low as he has. Has he been injured, or just performing poorly?
Interesting to see Marseille opting to give their WCs to some of the very talented teens that have cropped up in the 94-96 generation, as opposed to the countless French players in and around the 100-200 range.
I was following Kyle's match today while I was at work and found myself doing a small fist pump when I saw him seal the comeback victory...there were some very strange looks pointed in my direction from a collection of my colleagues. It looks like another tough match to come though, hopefully Kyle can have a bit more of a lie in before this one!
Great news regarding his marseille WC, hopefully he receives a kinder draw than the one he was handed in chennai. Is there anyway of finding out why he was selected for the WC or is it simply just a case of who you know? I'm not suggesting Kyle doesn't deserve the WC, more curious as to what the selection process is.

A bit of both, I think - i.e. I think he was injured for a while and hasn't been the same since - his current low ranking is based on virtually a full year of play with no long gaps between tournaments. His last two matches against Brits were a straight sets win against Josh Milton in October and a straight sets loss to him in November.

It looks like they've 'done a Queen's' and favoured young up-and-coming players over locals. I'm pleased for Kyle, obviously, but not too surprised that some French fans aren't very impressed with the decision. I would be very surprised if it wasn't partly a case of 'who you know' (i.e. who your management company is) as well.
At least Kyle (not that I can claim to know for sure, but by all accounts ...) doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will let the preferential treatment go to his head.
