RE: Weeks 3-4 - Australian Open (men's)

Well that was the best Federer has played in ages and Andy clearly isn't back to 100% physically. In the circumstances I am pretty pleased with his performance.

Didn't see the match but from all the accounts I was reading, Andy ran out of gas towards the end, which is highly understandable.

Many people said at the start of the tournament, that anything passed the QF would be a bonus at this stage of Andy's recovery and so it proved. Overall, decent tournament from Andy, with the added bonus now that he will get a few extra days of rest and clay court acclimatisation before the DC.

Edit

Forgot to add GO STAN.

Great fight from Andy, but just too far behind to make it. His forehand was very good from what I saw, but his backhand not as good as normal. I'm hoping that will come back soon, as his fitness and recovery proceed.

If only he didn't have those 1,000 points coming off in Miami. With Wawrinka and Berdych moving up, he's going to fall to what ... 9th? Not great for Masters draws ...

Or am I reading things incorrectly.

By Miami he may be able to defend those points!

I'm sure he'll be improving. But if he's a ninth seed, his route is much harder. Hoping I've got it wrong.

Are you feeling okay?

Yes, now that I realised I was mistakenly subtracting 1,640 instead of 840 points from his running total, I feel much better!

But he's still going to fall to 6th, isn't he (one of Berdych or Wawrinka will overtake) and if Federer were to beat Nadal, he'd fall to 7th. I think I'm on safer ground with that ...

It's 840 points coming off and he can gain points at the Davis Cup and Acapulco.

Hard to be disappointed, hopefully as Andy's back gets stronger we'll see that backhand DTL more often its already made more of an appearance in this tournament than it has done in ages.

Yes, that analysis is the correct. Of course, if Fed doesn't beat Nadal, it'll mean only two of the 'big 4' in the top 4.

Yes, the top 8 are now going to be very well clear. OK, the top one, then the second, then six.

Andy's 4720 points that will drop him to WR 6 or 7 ( depending on whether Fed makes the final or not ) will leave him still very well clear of WR 9 Gasquet on 3050 poinrs and WR 10 Tsonga on 2885 points

So, so happy for Stan. A great guy with a beautiful game who really deserved this.

Yes, brilliant for Stan, Slam winner ( the most important thing ) and new WR 3 ( and Swiss no 1 :) )

I don't think being between 5-8 makes that much difference. Surely 3/4 will play 5/8 in the quarters anyway. He is playing the same people, but from the other side of the draw!
