Just done next week's GB women's top 25 table and realised half of the top 12 (Laura, Sam, Jade, Lisa, Amanda & Katy) and even the GB no. 14 has retired

Still, not much worth playing next week - there are so few tournaments on that even the 10K in Sharm is unusually strong.

In addition to the list above, JoKo is in Paris WTA qualifying and Jazzamay has another main draw wildcard on Lanzarote.

Thought the same when I read that comment as well. But if you consider the "World Group" to be the "elite" and treat it in that regard, then I understand what Bluesky1 was trying to say.

I don't think "remain in the tennis super power elite" is more generally commesurate with "have one elite tennis player".

The current situation shows what you can do in the Davis Cup with one extremely good player. It is nominally a team event, but save for the assistance of a very good doubles partner, one player could win a country the Davis Cup. It would be absolutely tremendous ( wouldn't it just ! ) but almost a separate matter, like Andy winning Wimbledon.

If Andy did anything like this now and say Kyle in the future ( not suggesting he will be that good, but just say ) would we really be in the tennis elite comparative to say Spain and France ?

The true better health of British tennis will be having many more top 100 / top 200 players.

I don't think very many folk kid that we are an elite tennis nation. We put on probably the most famous Slam and have one great player. British tennis does need to invest, but more particularly invest wisely in all areas.

You are a bit late to that party and it has been widely discussed elsewhere on the forum.

Evo was supposed to play the Maui challenger in the week that has just finished. About 10-11 days ago however he flew home from Australia telling Leon Smith that he wanted to practice indoors. Smith was apparently less than happy with this and strongly urged Evo against doing so but he words fell on deaf ears. The very strong suspicion is that Dan didn't want to spend 5-6 weeks touring and wanted to be back home with his mates and/or girlfriend.
