RE: British Tour 2014

Yes, it does appear Rona can play much better than this week suggests ( and presumably that video ), even if I did detect slight overenthusism recently regarding her abilities :)

It will be interesting to see how she progresses.

quite funny this forum , none of you see the players.

i was at bournemouth today and watched rona and spoke to the andy telling me she's hurt her elbow but refused to pull out hence the bad performance.

i still stick by what i said , hopefully she doesn't read these snarky and negative comments from people who haven't really seen her play. Everyone has ups and downs and she has only picked up her racket  year ago. its takes time .

sammy, if you read back the comments, nobody was being sarky or negative. Someone said the video on youtube was poor. BUT said that it was only a short youtube video. i.e. you can;t argue with the video but you can acknowledge that it's not completely representative. Which is exactly what he/she did.

I said she had good qualities and liked her but I didn't see her quite as high as you did.

As for Bournmouth, Rona's score in hte previous match was very close too, against a not too well ranked player. Was she inured then? We can't just assume that people are inured if they lose.

I hope she gets better quickly, and I hope she makes her way up the rankings, whcih I think she will. But it's a question of degree. Not everyone has to agree. But it's no insult to Rona, or you. if others don't see exactly eye to eye.

Ah, but you ( and many others at other times ) are a non person, CD, as noone else on this forumm sees the players :)

Relax, Sammy, I am sure noone here wishes Rona ill at all, quite the opposite. I hope that she gets over this injury quickly and makes good progress.

Thanks for the info. It's good to learn some context afterwards, but as CD says we can't keep putting comments such as "assuming not injured".

You'll all know when I'm being snarky, believe me!

Yes indeed, calm down Sammy. I made it clear (as CD points out) the video might not be representative but wasn't that long ago so wanted to point posters to its existence. We all hope she gets better and delivers the potential you talk about.

I watched the whole of that match against Katy and if you go back to the thread in question I was impressed by what I saw. Rona displayed a commanding forehand and great movement but just wasn't consistent enough in that match which is understandable given she hadn't been long back playing at that level whilst Katy had played all year in Junior slams, grade As and started on the senior tour.

i am sorry for the slight overreaction and understand where everyone is coming from , forgive me! Yes that video was a long time ago and obviously she has improved everything alot and obviously needs to just keepimproving and moving up and staying away from injuries. I hope she sorts out the elbow quickly, im sure its not major but it was horrible watching her play without a serve or forehand and being in pain. i still dont understand why she didnt pull out and instead sort of embarrass herself. Lets just keep supporting her and katy and all our girls. Does anyone know what tournaments she has entered and if they are 10ks or BT i doubt she will be playing again this month. >

I spoke to Naomi last year in Edinburgh she was coaching a croat girl?  I asked about a comeback she said no it would be great if she did comeback

Well, unless there are two 1.1 ranked Naomi Cavaday's floating around the UK, looks as if that's happening! Great news.

Naomi has popped up a few times with the girls based at Northwood, Katy, Beth, Harriet, so think she must be coaching there.  She also played Aegon team tennis last year for Cumberland and is doing so again this year.  She also played for Kent during County Week.  This is probably nothing more than she fancies a couple of extra matches but it will be nice to see her play and we can but hope.

Yes, I rather doubt it's a 'comeback'. I tend to agree with The Optimist, she maybe fancies playing a couple of matches, maybe she has a player playing their too, or maybe she particularly likes the club and wants to support them.
(Arnaud Clement popped up in French League tennis yesterday, also causing a twitter (literally), but probably no comeback).

Pleased for her if she feels she can take pleasure from playing competitive tennis though. Enjoy!

Sophie Watts WR 989 seems to be back from college and in the UK (for the moment at least).

She made the semis but got beaten by Beth Askew in three sets. Beth will play Aimee Gibson in the final

Yes, Sophie is entered into the 2 Notts grass events - though not sure she will make the cut - and a few 10Ks around Europe.
