There are 3 strands for top juniors to choose from at this time of year. The Latin American COSAT circuit kicks off here on hard courts, with Emily Arbuthnott and Aswin Lizen the only Brits playing.. Emily opened this afternoon in fine style against a player who beat someone ranked higher than Emily in the Orange Bowl before taking a set off Izzy Wallace. Aswin plays later against someone who reached the final of his last tournament.
Boys R1 (L64)
Aswin Lizen (GBR) v Emil Reinberg (USA)
Girls R1 (L64)
(9) Emily Arbuthnott (GBR) d. Jessica Golovin (USA) 6-2 6-2
Emily could easily break into the top 100 with a decent run this week. She is seeded 4 in the doubles. A QF win or a good run in the doubles would be enough.
A second convincing scoreline for Emily, and a decent draw to earn that quarter-final place - though her opponent has won a smattering of matches at 10K level
R2
(9) Emily Arbuthnott (GBR) d. Julia Soica (FRA) 6-1 6-1
R3
(9) Emily Arbuthnott (GBR) v Simone Pratt (BAH)
Boys R2
(12) Peter Bertran (DOM) d. Aswin Lizen (GBR) 6-2 6-3
Excellent series of scorelines but much tougher prospect in the quarters - Olga Fridman was the top ranked '98 in Europe at under 14 level, but missed most of last year with an achilles injury. Emily is also through to the quarter-finals of the doubles
Emily's first final above G4 level. There is a chance of the final being live streamed ( www.copacafe.com/news-media/live-video-streaming ) at 9.30pm GMT but they usually start the stream a bit later
Doubles SF
