RE: Week 2 - WTA International ($250,000) - Hobart, Australia - Hard

Glad to hear that she's playing well, hopefully just precautionary. It's pretty worrying though, Laura's so young to already be having joint injuries.

What a shame for Laura.
I do hope her wrist can make a complete recovery.
All the best Laura!

Worrying. Wrist and bronchitis, worrying and must be so frustrating for Laura.

So many questions, but so few answers, no PC after the match, so likely no further update until GB press corps get to Oz.

We spotted this injury about a month ago during her offseason training block, but she didn't take full rest, so we assume that the injury is minor, and that the MRI was reasonably positive. She did play through the left wrist problem last autumn, but then the right wrist takes alot more work. However it needed only 5 games for her to call for a trainer, when you assume if she started the match, she would be fit enough to finish it. Knowing Laura she'll probably line up next week, and with a bit of luck get through a round, but at what further cost, unless of course playing today has aggravated it substantially. One observation I did get from reading in running commentary of the match was that the 2nd serve had improved, putting a bit more wrist action into the shot, I wonder whether that has impacted the wrist. And then of course we have the chronic chest problem , which I had hoped was now under control.

I didn't see the match, and I trust what you saw, but Wickmayer apparently has been ill since the start of the year and has been on antibiotics for several days, so it is possible that Laura might not have been ill or they were both ill. Here's hoping that Laura afterall wasn't coughing and we only have to worry about her wrist.

Yes, a search on Twitter reveals comments such as 'Wickmayer has a bad cough' on the day of Laura's match. At the time I didn't think it sounded like Laura's cough, it was very loud and resonant.

Also Laura was out on the practice court apparently, today, so things maybe not so dire as we might have thought.

She also had to retire when 4-1 down in her 2nd round match, due to illness.
I suspect if Laura hadn't have had the trainer on for the wrist problem Wickmayer may have retired against Laura.

Yes Laura has been practicing, and looks as if she'll make the starting lineup, still would love to know the extent of the problem.

An update on Laura's injury reveals that it is tendonitis, and if the size of the new strapping for her wrist is anything to go by( now covering her arm halfway up to her elbow) not looking good. She'll play but at what cost.
