Evan Hoyt won his match at the British Tour event at Exeter today.
Not that this is ground-breaking news in itself but, as far as I'm aware, it's the first proper match he's played in absolutely ages (due to injury problems) and so it's great to see him out on a court and winning again.
and Andy B beats Evan Hoyt for the second week in a row, 6-4 6-4
That;s a good couple of weeks, pay cheque wise, got Andy B.
One of the coaches pointed out to me quite recently how important the British Tour is to many of the players in terms of their funding calculations. And it's true that it's one way that the LTA fund our players.
Hmm. After last year, we can hardly complain about UAE people coming here and picking up points (Well we can, of course, but they could rightly talk about sauces for geese and ganders!)
You're quite right, Spectator, and it's all tongue in cheek - anyone's got the right to enter a 'free access' tournament.
But it would be nice if word didn't get out - it's not the points (there aren't any) but the prize money, which is quite generous - it's one of the LTA's most effective ways to fund up-and-coming British players
Apart from helping to fund GB players, one of the initial stated aims of the BT was to help our stronger juniors with the transition to senior tennis. A few foreign players entering is all to the good in helping with this aim (just not too many eh )
If i remember rightly... years ago Mel South did something similar in Australia where they have/had a similar set-up to the British Tour. She went for the match practice and the money.
