RE: British Tour 2014

Nice opening for Mr Smethurst. After his heroics at the end of the last season, it would be good to see him keep on the upwards trajectory.

Wish we'd had Omar at the Davis Cup in Birmingham that time. Would have eased my nerves somewhat!

Well done to Bloomers who cruised through the Tour event this week at Norwich, losing 4 games, 2 games, 3 games and 4 games respectively in each round. (Beat Alexis Canter in the final).

Opposite in the women - Aimee Gibson beating Grace Dixon in three really tight sets

a domestic national tennis circuit that pays prize money and gives points towards qualifiying for a 'super-British-tour' final at the end of the year. But no WTA or ATP or ITF ranking points, purely a GB local thing (but open to all players, you don't have to be British to play).

Overall, it's generally about the level of a 10k qualifiying tournament, lots of UNR and quite a few WR 1000 + players. And some better ranked players, depending on their personal scheduling, local affinities etc.

As Richard Bloomfield is joined by Ashley Hewitt, Neil Pauffley and Alex Ward (horrah!) for a Tier One level event in Tipton this week, a little news update that some of you may be interested in?

I see that Alex Ward went out to Sam Hutt in the QF.

I guess either still getting into the swing of things or doing his Aston Villa impression - only really performing against the bigger challenges.

I know that Keelan loves coming to the net - sounds like Josh G, with legs like jelly, lobbed the stuffing out of him today at the British Tour :)

Keelan Oakley ‏@KeelanOakley 3h

Lost in 3 but enjoyed the match. @jjgcoaching how much for an hour session based on forehand lobs?!

Josh Goodall ‏@jjgcoaching 1m

Neil Pauffley has had to retire in the final, despite having won the first set 6-2. So there must be something not good . . .:(

Adam Thornton-Brown gets the win.
