So does that mean Naomi is almost certain to be top 250 by Wimby even if she loses every match over the next 4 months? If that's the casshoul expect her to be between 150 and 200
Naomi will have 263 total ranking points next Monday, including just 40 in total ( from 4 tournaments ) to be defended before Wimbledon.
Replacing these 4 tournaments by her best 4 post Wimbledon current non counters gives her a minimum, as above, of 230 points even if she was not to win another match before Wimbledon.
She does indeed have an excellent opportunity to push her ranking up in the coming months.
Wimbledon give out 8 wildcards for main draw singles right? They usually seem to give at least one to an overseas player but would they do that with if we had 8 players getting within the top 250 without ranking high enough for DA? I suppose if Evo gets high enough it is unlikely to be an issue but otherwise I think on the men's side that we have at least 7 with a pretty good shout at reaching 185 points, esp. if Smethurst wins this week.
When is the cut off date ? I was looking at points coming off and who was most likely/most vulnerable but I didn't know the exact date.
Is it the same date for Q acceptance? And what is the normal cut-off/guideline for WCs acceptance to that? I know there's the play-offs but some players get direct WCs into the QD too.
Recently, most wild cards have been handed out towards the end of Queens week, about 10 days before the first day. The winner of both Notts challengers have been rewarded with Wild Cards for the last couple of years (not sure if there will still be two events when the calendar changes?). One or more has gone to foreign players and of course others have simply not been used with the "next highest ranked player" getting into the main draw on merit.
I think we all know that the "top 250" is just a guideline.....not a guarantee. Also exceptional juniors have received them (Edmunds last year for example). Should we have 8 players get inside that top 250 then it would get interesting, I guess the highest ranked out of them would pull rank but maybe how many they've received before could have a bearing? I think the LTA are on safe ground still at the moement!
The play offs have been used to award a qualifying wild card (or more), not main draw.
Another possible wild card is Gianluigi Quinzi, the 2013 boys champion.
In recent years the reigning boys champion as has received a qualifying wild card (or at least been offered one) but last year the 2012 champion Filip Peliwo claimed in an interview that he had been told that he would have received a main draw wild card if he had been ranked in the top 250. Quinzi is currently ranked 327 so has a decent shot of making 250 prior to Wimbledon. I have never seen any confirmation regarding this policy but I don't see why Peliwo would lie about it.
I'm pretty new here, I always read the message boards but never post..... so I thought it was about time I started :) haha!
Its only 4 months, YES 4 MONTHS to go until The Championships, Wimbledon!!!! We know that top 250 is the bar for a Wimbledon MDWC so I thought id start a thread to track the progress of the players that are around that mark and likely to be top 250/pushing for top 250 by Wimbledon, and therefore be aiming for a MDWC! If people would like I will update this thread each week with the players rankings and how many points from the top 250 they are. Would people like this? Don't worry if not!
So.....
Joko (119)
Hev (122)
Tara (210)
Naomi Broads (226)
Sam Murray (232)
Jade Windley (289)
Is there any one else I should include? I think it would be a push for the other girls to make top 250 by the cut off date, however, of course with good performances leading up to Wimbledon some of the other girls may get a MDWC. Who do we think these are?

Welcome Deano. I was tracking the mens progress and intended to post every two to three weeks. No one will ever mind if you wish to update more frequently or indeed take on following the ladies. As I say, welcome!
