Tara lost in 3 set. Slightly disappointing, but these young Chinese girls tend to be under ranked.

Looking at Zhang's record, she won a 50K last April and would almost certainly be ranked quite a bit higher had she not tried to play mainly WTAs and 125Ks in the second half of the year, which meant lots of early losses and hardly any points.

Tennisalternative are reporting that Tara got food poisoning and was taken to hospital after her match. Nathii's usually very reliable but I haven't seen any corroboration of this and Tara has tweeted since, seemingly happy enough. That might explain the 3rd set collapse, though I don't think it was every likely to be an easy match, even if she was completely healthy.

Ah pity, but at least presumably no real problem. Might teach Tara to be wary of such strange, unfamiliar locations !

Hong Kong's hardly back of beyond, and pretty Westernised if you want to eat that way. Food poisoning can happen anywhere.

I think Indiana's joking, Helen ! It's because Tara's family come from Hong Kong and she still has lots of family there, that the 'strange, unfamiliar' is tongue in cheek.

Tara put a tweet about this, suggest she was not a party animal and was last ill out in Mexico. I assume it refers to the tennisalternative post........

Indiana was joking, knowing Tara's background and actually having spent a few days in Hong Kong himself. Sorry...
