RE: Week 1 - ATP 250 - Doha, Qatar (hard)

Evans loses the first set 2-6 but he has just broken in the second to go 1-0

The second break was also squandered but Dan finally stops the rot and holds for 4-4*

based entirely on the livescores and stats, I do think Dan deserves this set...but then I am undoubtedly biased

*30-15

Well done Dan - into a decider

Dan's first serve points won stats aren't great reading.

Bizarre serving stats from Dan. he has won just 44% on first serve but 62% on second serve.

No, they really aren't but he has made more inroads on the Gulbis first serve this set than the last so that is good news at least

Really frustrated that we can't watch this, but it's already outstanding that Dan has taken a set from IMO one of the 2 or 3 most talented players outside the top 10. We all know the Latvian can play tennis from the Gods or tennis from the local park, depending on what side of the bed he got out of in the morning (or more pertinently whether he even made it to bed the night before), but Ernests was very consistent, focussed and successful for the bulk of 2013, so we have to assume he hasn't lapsed.

Good luck Dan! If Gulbis should go a break down, he can blow a fuse very easily and give up/tank, so it's not impossible Dan could pull this off, even if unlikely on the balance of probabilities

Very much down to how good Gulbis' first serve is. Dan seems to be picking off the second serve.
