A good win in the end and one that in some ways is more pleasing than a routine straight sets win. Qualifying draw has opened up nicely so lets hope he takes full advantage.
I don't think (Taro) Daniel will be any pushover - only 20 years old, just beaten the world no.106 and recently achieved his CH before dropping back a bit, so clearly still on the up.However this sort of win gives me the confidence that Evo can build on his results from last autumn.
Taro Daniel will be no pushover. I saw him play in Murcia last year and although I wasn't impressed on the day, his results later in the year suggest he can play. In his penultimate tournament of 2013 he made the finals of a challenger, where he lost to Bradley Klahn. But there was a straight sets win over Wardy in that run to the final.
Happy new year all. Do we know what Dan's plans are for the next few months? Is it going to be ATP qualies or Challengers I wonder?
Good luck to Dan this afternoon - I think he has a good opportunity. It won't be often that he'll be able to qualify for an ATP tournament without beating anybody ranked above him.
great first set serving stats from evo, 76% first serves, 70% won on first serve, 83% won on second serve and 3 aces (one of which was a second serve ace)
