It seems to be a very well balanced timetable, with all the important tournaments, and without too much travelling.

All is left now is to maximise point collection, by going as far as possible, in each one of these tournaments.

And with a bit more determination, the number ONE spot can be a reality.

He has to believe in it though.

Well, its essentially just a list of the Slams and Masters tournaments, plus one warm up tournament before the Aussie Open ( as usual ) plus presumably Queens ( as usual ).

Acapulco is interesting ( what surface ? ). Glad to see him in planned action between the Aussie Open and Indian Wells, apart from I hope Davis Cup. Hope to see some more additions in time.

If the number one spot comes with success so be it, but I would think it is still much less significant to Andy than further Slam triumphs.

Acapulco has always been a clay court event but switches to hard court from this year, essentially becoming part of the early North American calender (replacing Memphis which in turn is downgraded to a 250 and replaces the abolished San Jose) while a new clay court 500 event in Rio becomes highlight of the South American swing.

I would also expect Andy to play either Tokyo or Beijing the week before the Shanghai Masters and either Basel or Valencia the weeks before the Paris Masters.

Thanks, RJA, I was guessing that something like that must have happened to Acapulco, but was too lazy to research the details ( when I know a simple ? on here can often get the wished for info and more ! )

Earlier today Neil Harman tweeted the following

"Andy Murray is currently scheduled not to play Monte Carlo this year. It is not a mandatory event. Madrid and Rome before Paris."

Leaving aside that no one is scheduled to play Monte Carlo at present because the entry list won't be out till March I assume Neil is basing this tweet on something fairly solid so I have removed this event from the opening post. It certainly wouldn't be surprising to see Andy cut down his clay court events to them minimum possible.

This is great news. It strongly suggests that his back is fine and that he wants to get some matches under his belt.

Quite surprised by this- been a long time since he's played "extra" tournaments. A clear change in his schedule this year no Miami in feb and with DC prep on clay in Europe

Andy is apparently negotiating with the tournament director about playing Oeiras (ATP 250) the week before Madrid. It would be the first time he has ever played a 250 on clay.

Getting a bit of stick from Dicko this morning about his scheduling this year. i.e not necessarily just playing tournaments purely from a tennis point of view.

In recent years Andy's schedule has been very focussed on Slams. Some may suggest overso, but one can't really argue with his consistent Slam performances and ultimate success.

I have thought his schedule this year to date very understandable, i.e. I saw it as playing more to get back in the groove.

I have no idea about the particular circumstances surrounding Oeiras.

What in general are Mike Dickson's criticisms ? Suggesting money chasing ?
