Shame they couldn't hold out for the win but, to second paulisi, I'm really excited to see Rosco back and whilst I want nothing but the best results for them, the fact that they are back playing again will keep me smiling through worse losses than this one.

Nice to see Jamie and John carrying on where they left off last year and just happy to see Ross back on court.

Great to see Ross back. Hope they can do well this year.

Interesting that Copil did go on to qualify, won his first match against fellow qualifier Sugita serving 31 aces over three tiebreak sets and has beaten Gilles Simon in straight sets.

Two new ATP videos of GB (or at least partially GB) doubles teams: Messrs Murray (J) and Peers supporting the RSPCA www.atpworldtour.com/Media/Video-Landing/*/Tennis/Media/Videos/Uploaded/2014/1/2/Brisbane-2014-RSPCA-Murray-Peers.aspx and a good interview with Messrs Fleming and Hutchins, www.atpworldtour.com/Media/Video-Landing/*/Tennis/Media/Videos/Uploaded/2014/1/1/Brisbane-2014-Hutchins-Fleming-Interview.aspx

And, in a further note (similar to the above), Messrs Chardy and Dimitrov ran Messrs Federer and Mahut (who are looking very good) extremely close.

The big serving Romanian has gone on to the qf's in the main draw, beating Gilles Simon along the way

Jamie and John had a point (on their own serve) to take the 2nd seeds into a 1st set tiebreak but ended up losing a deciding deuce point and with it the 1st set. 5-7

A close loss to a good team - and overall not a bad start to the year ... especially for a team with nothing whatsoever to defend until March.

Also now at least if Federer/Mahut get through to the final, there will be no question of split loyalties. (If you haven't watched the highlights, or indeed whole matches, which the tournament has put online, you are missing something ... though how Federer will survive playing two matches a day in 40 degrees ....)
