2014 male ranking predictions

Morning all, and very nearly merry Christmas everyone.

It's getting a bit close to the start of the season now and I am concerned that I haven't seen any 2014 ranking predictions yet!! I really couldn't care less about it being turned into a board competition, but I do really like seeing how the more informed posters who manage to make it to a few tournaments etc rate our players prospects.

So I guess that I better kick off with my attempt at estimating the GB top 10 at the end of 2014...

1)Andy (2)

2)Evans (100)

3)Edmund (150)

4)J Ward (180)

5)A Ward (210)

6)Rice (215)

7)Golding (220)

8)Cox (250)

9)Willis (290)

10) Gabb (310)

Very very hard to pick a top 10 this year, let alone order them let alone predict their world rankings!! Smethurst, Broady Hewitt, Bambridge all very nearly snuck onto my list, but I just have a feeling that Gabb is going to have a solid year with good scheduling, and consistency at futures level, along with some solid results at weaker challengers. He therefore made my list.

The most encouraging thing looking ahead to this year is that we have a very solid group of challenger players now, and a very real chance of ending 2014 with more than one in the top 100 :)

Very interesting - i'm still working on my list. I started with the girls(nearly finished) with the boys to come up next.

I suprised Mr.Klein has not come into your consideration. Definitely has the ability to get back into top 300, assuming he has the correct attitude.

Did you not wax lyrical about the pointlessness/futility of making predictions some time back, Ratty? This is a turn up. Back then I thought you were making a general point about the randomness of predictions (using statistics, probabilities, etc) to which the consensus seemed to be that it was all just a bit of good fun, so chill out! Perhaps you were, in fact, making a more specific point about the futility of ME making predictions.........

......this is a far more reasonable position to take, and I am very much in agreement with you having perused my woeful attempts at the 2013 rankings one year on. Chapeau.wink

Wishing Ratty, Steven, Indy, CD, Bob, DavidC, Seagull and the hundreds of others who make this such an interesting place to be a Very Happy Holiday. And for all the players who read this forum, including Fitzy, Marcus, Oli and many more......best of luck for 2014! I won't make predictions this year, but I just have a strong feeling that at least 3 young players currently outside 350 will be inside 200 by year end (or at least will have dipped inside during the year). Including one who had a very mixed 2013.

I normally steer clear of the predictions competition but I'll try my hand this year...I may need bonus points for turning up to have any hope of points at all

1. Murray, A (1)
2. Evans, D (97)
3. Ward, J (180)
4. Edmund, K (210)
5. Corrie, E (235)
6. Willis, M (249)
7. Cox, D (270)
8. Golding, O (290)
9. Klein, B (340)
10. Rice, D (395)

No doubt I'm being far too optimistic but I just can't help myself

Cheers Korri ! Have a great one yourself  smile

And, as per the other thread, with best wishes to all for a wonderful holiday season and happy, healthy New Year !

(NB it does my brain in trying to think of orders and rankings but I will make an effort. I agree with spud, though, for biggest mover of the year, Harry Meehan has got to be right at the top of the list (would that be just on absolute move though ? as opposed to weighted/percentage move ?)

Mmm, interesting, the predictions for Dan Evans, apart from my 280 outlier, are: 100,97, 127, 126, 112,111. I hope I'm wrong! smile

Happy Christmas!

(Scalextric seems to be miles better now than when I was a lad, so here's hoping ...)

Like Ratty I find the Evo predictions rather interesting.

My angle was more that in a poll Gary set up at the end of September 13/15 folk ( 86.7% ) reckoned Evo would make the top 100 before the end of 2014. 2/15 ( 13.3% ), including myself, reckoned that no he wouldn't.

Now we have so far 2/8 ( 12.5% ) predicting he will end the year in the top 100, at WR 100 and WR 97 respectively.

I guess though that "before the end of 2014" is much more open than "at the end of 2014" and some folk may be thinking that he will get into the top 100 before his big August / September points drop off and then fall out again by the end of the year. And / or maybe quite a few folk are rather less optimistic now for Evo than they were still quite soon after the US Open.

By the way, I am assuming "at the end of 2014" means just that, i.e. based on the last ranking list produced before the end of 2014.

Hmm, quite a lot of waffle from me and no list. I'll get there, but I do think it quite a challenge to predict the GB top 10, let alone put them in order and predict WRs.

I didn't vote in that poll, I think. But I did say that I didn't feel Evo was taking the right path to the top...

Ohh, and Indy to cross 11,750 posts, but Salmon will be stuck in the 10Ks.
