The French tennis sites are claiming that Fabrice managed to win because he's brimming full of confidence after an excellent few weeks in the French interclub league matches.
From Ed's Facebook... which funnily enough mentions confidence. Nice assessment of the match and his year as a whole. Look forward to hopefully seeing him do well next year.
A little earlier than I would have liked, but that is it, 2013 is in the books!
We lost our first round doubs yesterday in a 10 point breaker and then today I went down to Fabrice Martin (FRA) ranked 565, 76(6) 62. He played very well in a pretty high quality match. It was difficult to return his serve on such quick courts and although I played a good breaker, he came up with 3 great points to finish. In the second I played one poor service game and his confidence rose after that.
So that's it! It has been an incredible year on the court. I won three futures singles titles, a challenger doubles title, was part of the Davis Cup team for the first time and played in my first ever ATP event at Queens. I also had some difficult months in the middle of the year, but learnt a lot from those tough days and feel like a better player because of it. On Monday I will move to a career high ranking of 290 something and am already looking forward to building on that next year!
Now, I will have four weeks of pre-season training back in the UK with the Gosling team. Lots to work on and improve before I start again in mid-January.
Thank you for all of your support on here. I know I have clogged up your already clogged news feed with lots of tennis results, but I appreciate all the likes and comments throughout the year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Ed Corrie Tennis will be back in 2014!!!
Yes, I am assuming Neil and Josh worked out between them that Neil's need was rather greater if they were both to possibly end the year in the top 500, so Neil eased through.
Seriously this time, it would be good to see Neil have a very good end to a year in which his ranking hasn't progressed as many ( including I am guessing himself ) expected.
Bet365 had Neil at 6.10 to 1 and Julien at 1.07 to 1 when I looked earlier - even allowing for the fact that Julien's been on a roll recently, that seemed pretty outrageous
Neil won the first game, bets currently at 6.0 and 1.11, come on Neil . . .
