Pleased to see that whatever injury scare Oli had last week hasn't affected him or his form as he completes a 6-2 6-0 win.
That's half way to the big R2 match up. Let's hope Liam can oblige.
Oli's opponent is ranked in the 900s and was in the 600s in 2012, so he's no mug. This is the kind of result and performance which only very good players can produce. Having won his last 2 tournaments before having 2 weeks off, this is a fantastic indication that something has really clicked - mentally, technically, physically - who knows.
I've been sceptical about Mr Golding in the past, partly because his results to date hadn't really backed up his world class potential from juniors, but mostly because he'd shown certain character traits both on and off the court which suggested over-confidence, immaturity and even entitlement (and I'm being relatively kind). I'm delighted that his potential is starting to be reflected in his results, and I'd like to think that it's partly down to experience, age and simply "growing up".......ironically the fact that he has had just a miserable time of it this year in terms of both form and injury may have been just the catalyst he needed. Always happy to be wrong if it means someone's talent starts to shine through.
I'd love him to go and win this week and/or next week to really give him a lift ahead of 2014. Well done Oli.
There's a lot of anglo-franco rivalry this week ! Oli has taken care of 'his' frenchman', George Morgan beat his one yesterday, Naomi showed that the girls can beat 'les francaises' too, Ed's got a bigger poisson to fry tomorrow and so, Liam, up to you to finish it off by putting King Matthew in his place today . . ..
