So good to see Harry manage to follow up the 'mega' win against Klec with another, less dramatic one and secure a point - so easy to lose that second match (my guess is Josh played a large part - that's what experience and direct coaching brings to the table).
(Hopefully, all that nonsense about Harry - at age 18! - wanting to be a doubles specialist has now been laid to rest, if it were ever true in the first place).
FQR: (q11) Harry Meehan WR 1605 beat (q1/wc) Ivo Klec (SVK) WR 469 (CH 184 in 2006) by 6-3 4-6 6-4
Wonder whether Klec took his foot off the gas, knowing that he had first dibs on a lucky loser spot? Needless to say, one duly opened up & he made short work of a Swedish qualifier ranked 2160 to claim a place in the second round against the eighth seed, our young friend, Ramkumar Ramanathan (WR 580). 'Twill be interesting to see the outcome of that one!

He was only 4th in line according to Josh ("Amazin 2 see Klec get in as 4th lucky loser 2day. Just shows u its always worth getting up & signing in as LL on the off chance others 4get") so presumably not. In ITFs/Futures, there's a draw for the order of LL places among the FQR losers, so being top Q seed doesn't automatically make you top of the list.

Great to see from Harrry ( and shh about Josh's physical well being LOL ), seems to be beginning to progress pretty nicely.
Totally agree, CD, that for quite some time to come ( years ! ) his emphasis must be on singles. It saddens me a bit to see that Lewis Burton was close to the top 600 ( WR 626 ) at still 19 and now 21 months later is not much within the top 800. He certainly appeared to have real assets for singles, and at that stage seemed to have been progressing really well after a slowish start to his senior career. Just bearing in mind how much has been said about his doubles on here, I'd like to know what he now is looking for in singles. I don't even hear from Gary of singles ranking targets for Lewis, yet plenty doubles targets and singles targets for Marcus.
Just realised that Josh is just ahead of Klec in the rankings, so it's another career best ranking scalp for Harry - Josh is now thecareer best ranking scalp for 7 different Brits! With Josh's ranking when he beat them in brackets, they are:
- Ashley Hewitt (211) - Neil Pauffley (212) - Tom Burn (218) - Maniel Bains (237) - Richard Gabb (252) - Tom Farquharson (266) - Harry Meehan (465)
The ITF drawsheet differs slightly from Josh as to today's scoreline ... again.
L16: (Q) Harry Meehan WR 1423 beat (3) Josh Goodall WR 465 by 6-4 4-6 6-4
QF: (Q) Harry Meehan WR 1423 v (6) Karunuday Singh (IND) WR 581 (=CH)
Singh reached the Final of the Bangkok 15K last week.

From Josh's new coaching tweets, he was down at the court early, checking out Singh and doing his homework - so he'll have a few tips for Harry.
Given Josh says that Harry has improved 10-fold. And that the results back that up. And that he's still only 18. And that this new set-up (touch wood) seems to be suiting him brilliantly - my money is on Harry to be the surprise package of next year- the complete underdog who didn't even make the also-ran list about two months ago and is still a rank outsider compared to our other higher profile youngsters.
It's a shame that match wasn't available on bet365, I'd have stuck a few quid on Harry quite happily and what presumably would have been decent odds. Don't think that outcome is too much of a surprise.

I think it's BRILLIANT that is wasn't on bet365 - I really hope it wasn't on any other betting site either.

It's easy to assume the result suited both players (in many ways, it probably did) and was therefore a foregone conclusion but I doubt Josh actually threw the match - if so, it wouldn't make sense to make it last that long in the heat. Also, he's not even the first ex-top 200 player now ranked in the 460s Harry has beaten this week!
Quite possible of course that when it came to the crunch, Harry really wanted it whereas Josh knew there'd be something positive to take out of it either way - indeed, many big upsets probably occur because lower-ranked player wants it a bit more than the higher-ranked one does.
Of course, if you just mean that the odds offered on Harry would probably have been more generous than would have been offered knowing all the circumstances and therefore worth a punt, then I agree with you Perhaps the bookies did actually know and that's why no odds were offered, or have there been no odds on this tournament at all due to the lack of live scoring?
Anyway, there is more evidence than this result to suggest that Harry has upped his game over the last few weeks - he looks to have a tough QF against an in-form player, but who knows!
