It would have been terrible if his first question had been "How's skippy the bush kangaroo?". Would have known for certain that he had mislaid his marbles whilst inside!

Nelson Mandela's prisoner number was almost a tennis score 64 66 4

On a wider sporting context his wearing of a springbok shirt for the 1995 Rugby World Cup final was pure political genius, and made one of iconic photographs of the 20th century as he presented the cup to Francois Pienaar
