Expect very few of you guys will be over in France this Sunday, but:
George Coupland won his singles, easily, and the team won 5-1, and team (with Ricey) finishes top of the pool (Div 4)
Young Stuart Parker won his singles, lost the doubles, and the team won 4-2. The team (with Scott Clayton) also finishes top of the pool (Div 3)
Adam TB got a good win against a decent ranked player. Oli Hudson also won, and the two won their doubles. Again, team won and finished top of the pool (Div 3)
Amy Sargeant also clocked up two more wins, and they also finish top (div 3)
There are play-offs tomorrow for the top Div 2 teams for going up to Div 1B. Only Emily WS's team is involved (and I'm 99.9% sure she's not going out there for it).
(All the elite Premiere Div (12 teams) and Div 1A (12 teams) promotions/relegations were decided in December).
However, all the other promotions and demotions (for Div 1B down to Div 4) are done by pool ranking, not by play-offs.
The results for our players' teams are as follows (not confirmed but the matches have all been played and so the standings are established unless they're are any last-minute disputes):
Div 2 (48 teams) - Matt Short's team stays in Div 2
Div 3 - (96 teams)
Jamie feaver's team is promoted to Div 2
Scott Clayton and Stuart Parker's team is promoted to Div 2
Oliver Hudson and Adam TB's team is promoted to Div 2
Marcus's team stays in Div 3
Tom F's team is relegated to Div 4
For some reason, all the men's Div 4 team results and positions (also 96 teams) have been taken off the board (which probably means there's some dispute going on - Div 4 is the only one with a complicated formula for who goes down, with the bottom two going down EXCEPT the five best of all the bottom two).
However, last time I looked, Dan Cox's team had won all their matches and were going up to Div 3, as were the team of Dave Rice and George Coupland.
In the women:
Div 3 - Amy Sargeant's team is promoted to Div 2
Div 4 - Lucy Brown's team is promoted to Div 3
Pre-National - not sure if Mirabelle's team is going up to Div 4 (the Pre-Nat rules vary from department to department - her team lost the Pre-Nat final in their area but it might well be two teams to go up)
And good luck to Em's team tomorrow - going up to Div 1B is a big deal (only 12 teams, unlike 48 in Div 2 & 3 and 72 teams in Div 4)
As per the sensible request on the other page, (and as it concerns some of our best players), here is a thread exclusively for our GB players (men and women) who take part in the European club tennis leagues. (NB I don't follow the German leagues so if someone else does, please add it as this isn't meant to just be for france):
Emily's team conceded their play-off match to go up to Div 1B.
Which might be because they didn't have enough of their top players around this weekend (Alice Bacquie, for instance was down at Perigueux and although she lost yesterday I guess she didn't know that before she said she couldn't commit for today).
Or that, in fact, they didn't want to go up anyway (which quite often does happen, maybe to do with having to pay higher fees, or just they think they'll come straight down again so why bother)l.
Although my German is pretty hopeless, I take it from this article that Andy Bettles has been playing German league tennis, won his singles and doubles and is definitely 'worth watching' !
Anyone who can throw any more light onto it, please do !
The elite end of French club tennis kicks off next weekend (the main part takes place in April/May).
In Div 1 (the very top division, two pools of 6 teams), Aljaz Bedene is down as the second player in TCBB
In DN1A (just below, also two pools of 6 teams), Jonathan Gray is listed as the 7th player for TC Marignane (there are 5 singles so, in effect, he's second reserve)
In the girls, Div 1 has two pools with 5 teams in each.
Stade Clermontais (the 'British' club) has: Naomi Broady (as player no. 3), Tara Moore (as player number 6) and Lisa Whybourn (at number 7).
In DN1A (again 2 pools of 5 teams), at TC Tremblay, Nik Slater is listed as player no. 7
