I cannot imagine why Emily Appleton is playing in the French league (unless getting paid well) as she would get just as good experience playing in the Aegon league here (with a lot less hassle and time involved). The following ranked, or formerly ranked, women have turned out for their uk clubs so far this season:

Beth Askew, Hollie Bees, Mariam Bolkvadze, Lucy Brown, Naomi Cavaday, Yasmin Clarke, Stephanie Cornish, Harriet Dart, Laura Deigman, Amanda Elliott, Anna Fitzpatrick, Manisha Foster, Sarah Gregg, Frances Hendry, Danielle Hock, Anne Keothavong, Lena Keothavong, Natasha Khan, Lily Miyazaki, Katie O'Brien, Jane O'Donoghue, Lydia Perkins, Nicole Peterson, Laura Peterzan, Jessica Ren, Alexandra Romanova, Mel South, Fran Stephenson, Alexandra Walker, Lisa Whybourn (this Sunday in dubs - good news!).

I'm convinced there's some good experience to be had playing with that lot.

I'm absolutely sure she's not being paid a lot/anything at all. No club is going to pay a lot/anything for a 14 - 15 year-old (who will probably be slightly over-ranked by adult criteria).

Emily has also played one French domestic money tournament as well.

My guess - and it's a pure guess - is that her parents have a holiday house over there and they were there during the Easter holidays and so she played for the team coz why not . . ..

As I say, pure guess, but if Emily is at school and based in the UK, it's the thing that would make the most sense to me.

Matt Short annihilated some 35 year-old Argentinian with a very good French ranking 6-1 6-0

And won his doubles in a MTB. The team won 6-0

Nik Slater unfortunately lost her singles 3 & 0 to a lower ranked player, and narrowly lost the doubles, but the team won 4-2

Amy Sargeant lost her singles in three sets (to a lower player, though I think Amy is rather over-ranked) but won her doubles (team lost 2-4)

Sabrina Bamburac lost a tight 3-setter against someone the same ranking, and lost the doubles. (team won 4-2)

Tom Farq. lost 3-6 6-4 6-4 to jankovits, WR 850, CH 378 in 2012. Close.

He won his doubles but the team lost 4-2

Slabbers lost his singles in an equally close three setter, but to a guy ranked a fair bit lower. However, even if Alex is possibly slightly over-ranked now, it helps his team because he plays as number one so pushes all the other guys down a place, giving them more of a chance. Which is what happened as the team won 5-1 (Alex won his doubles in a MTB)

Playing for the same team, Stefan Sterland Markovits got thrashed by a guy one rank lower. Oliver Hudson won his match 6-4 in the third against a guy a lot lower. (Both Stefan and Oliver are ranked too high IMHO). Oliver got the doubles, Stefan not. Team won 4-2

Emily Appleton re-appeared for her team (rather putting pay to my holiday home theory, The Optimist: sorry, don't know!). She won her match nicely, against a 40 year-old woman who's lower ranked now but used to be pretty high. Emily also got her doubles; team won 5-1

Neil P got a good win, 6-3 in the third, against a 28 year-old guy who's got a good domestic ranking, and is ATP unranked now but had a CH of WR 498 5 years ago.

Unfortunately he lost the doubles in a MTB and the team lost 2-4

Maniel Bains had a close match against a decent-ranked player, losing 7-6 6-4.

No joy in the doubles either and the team lost 6-0.

Josh Goodall got a good two-set win against Gilles de Sousa, currently about WR 1200 but about WR 500 a few years ago.

Unfortunately, he lost the doubles in a MTB and the team lost 2-4.

Dave Rice/George Coupland's team still hasn't posted its result - and now the site had crashed (after the quali draw came out . . . ) - I was waiting to put the two final teams' results up together but don't know when the site will be up again. . . .

Last result of the weekend:

George Coupland posted a nice 6-2 6-1 win against a pretty decent ranked player and Chris Priddle (?) won 7-5 in the third against a lower guy.

George and Chris linked up for the doubles and won. Which was good because the team drew 3-3, which was all thanks to the three points from the Brtis :)

Josh G posted two reasonable victories, in singles and doubles, which at least gave his team the draw (not his fault if the others lose!)

Matt Short didn't play (staying in Romania) but, for our Irish cousins, James McGee popped up to take his place and won his matches well and the team won.

Tom F unfortuantely lost his singles (to a lower guy) and his doubles and the team drew.

Nik Slater only played the doubles, but won, and the team won 6-0

Marcus won his singles, the only point the team got, but lost his doubles in a MTB

Maniel Bains lost both his matches.

Slabbers won two tight matches, team won 6-0

George COupland (having won the B Tour on Saturday) and Chris Priddle both won their singles, and won the doubles playing together, giving the team the three points for the 3-3 draw

Stefan Markovic and Oliver Hudson both lost their singles but Oliver at least won his doubles

Neil P won both his matches

Emily Appleton lost her singles but won the doubles in a MTB

Amy Sargeant won both her matches

Today is the last day of regular pool matches in the National league (for all the divisions, I think) but just to say that Dan Cox who, rather bizarrely, plays in the pre-national level (different schedule), played on Thursday and won his match, both singles and doubles, and the team won and team also finished top of their pool so will qualify for the play-offs to go up to national level.

All credit to Dan, not really for having won all of his team matches (at this level you;d expect it) but for having organised his schedule so that he turned up to all 4, and then won all 4 in a really convincing way. I realise he gets paid for it but quite a few sign up at the beginning, get their retainer, and then don;t quite manage to turn up to more than one or two, maybe for legitimate reasons, but it's not that professional. Which is not an accusation you can make against Dan - well done :)

I would imagine there'd be slightlly less players taking part today but I haven't really worked it out. Anyway:

Alex Slabinsky (good ol' Slabbers) has won both his matches today, and the team finished second in the pool and so qualifies for the play-off stage, for possible promotion from division 3 to division 2

Nik Slater (who's got a doubles WC for Nottingham) won her singles and her doubles today. Her team finished top of the pool.

George Coupland played and won both his matches. Arlidge and Priddle lost. The team drew and finished 5th out of 6.

Oliver Hudson lost his two matches. The team finished third and will stay in division three.

Amy Sargeant won her two matches (7-5 in the third in her singles against young Harmony Tan, WR 737, which is an excellent result for Amy). The team finished 5th.

Matt didn't play but his team has also qualified top and will play in the play-offs to go up. Same scenario for Tom F and his team.

Maniel Bains didn;t play this time but team will (if the rules haven't changed) be relegated to division 4

Just to finish from yesterday (unless I've missed anyone):

Josh G lost his singles but won his doubles and the team finished second and so should qualify for the play-offs (unless they've changed the rules - sometimes it's top 2, sometimes just the top team).

Neil Pauffley won both his matches but the team drew and finshed third.

Emily A didn't play but the team finsihed nicely mid-pool and will stay up.
