Wow - even I was better than that

So glad to see Lucy is enjoying her tennis still, and playing well.

NB I've just gone and looked up the result - those two players at 3 and 4 for the opposition are ranked 30/3 ! That's VERY low, way lower than 30. No wonder they both lost 0&0.

The German Bundesliga starts in a few weeks. Typically high standard as usual, Alex Zverev and Dominic Thiem are registered to play, obviously unlikely that they will. Almost all the teams rosters are within the top 200. Can't see any brits apart from Jan Choinski and the website shows him as German!

The FFT have changed all their sites and it's been a complete 'bordel', as the French would say.

But in the French elite interclub league championship this year:

Women:

Tara played for Stade Clermontois, as usual, with Conny still there too (

), who are in Pro A, the absolute top division of the elite section. (Robin Anderson is now playing for them too)

SHe lost in a MTB against ANDRIANJAFITRIMO Tessah, and also lost her doubles in a MTB, which is especially tough, in one match. (Didn't know they played MTBs for singles, seems a new introduction). But the team won 4-2

She lost her singles against VOEGELE Stefanie but won her doubles in another encounter. And the team drew.

She didn't play singles but played doubles (with Conny) in another, but lost, and the team lost 1-5

They finished second (out of five) in their pool but there's only two pools in the top tier, now called Pro A, and only the top team of each pool go onto the final.

However, a very decent showing.

In the men, only Dan Evans was down on the team sheets, but he didn't play (he played a lot last year, people will remember, and his team won!)

In Pro B, Scott Clayton was the only player listed, men or women, but did not play.

I don't know how where to access all the German results but I read on the UKProleague site that Henry Patten went and played the German league tennis swing in autumn 2020.

He plays for TC Alfeld and this is from their Facebook (Google translated into English):

"The game against SV Blankenese was close for a long time. Our boys had a hard time in the singles. For some reason none of our men reached their limits. The result were defeats for Niklas Gerdes, James Markiewicz and Fabian Gusic. Henry Patten, Jannik Opitz and Christoph Uster equalized. In the doubles, our home team then showed a different face. The combinations Henry / Fabi, Niklas / James and Jannik / Robin Möller all clearly won in two sets. We delivered a maximum average game in the singles. As usual, we showed our strength in the doubles and were clearly superior , said coach Basti Wöhler. Next Sunday, the team would like to take the last step towards the promotion game. From 11 a.m. it goes to the TC at the Schirnau."

I read that to be Henry won his singles - and he definitely won his doubles.

Also note the name of Brit, James Markiewicz, there. And when I look back over their Facebook posts, it seems that James M get several key wins.

AND that Henry P had a mega win over Altug Celikbilek:

"Our north league men have reached the promotion game to the regional league. The boys won 8: 1 at the TC at the Schirnau. Particularly noteworthy was Henry's victory against number 329 in the world. On September 19th (Saturday !!!) there will now be a promotion game. This will be a home game against LTTC RW Berlin."

"The highlight of the day followed. Henry led against the Turkish Davis Cup player Altug Celikbilek 6: 2 and 2: 0 before he really got into the match. So the Alfelder had to deliver the second set with 5: 7. In the decisive Mtb our left-hander was fully there. With a lot of courage, powerful play and enthusiasm, he won 10: 6."

And this story goes on with what what obviously a VERY VERY contentious promotion match for TC Alfeld:

"Jahnstraße has seen many games over the decades. Yesterday's match was certainly one of the most emotional and, above all, most controversial in history. It should be said that the game was actually decided 10: 8 in the third set for our colors to 5: 4 overall victory when a Berlin player stormed the pitch and complained about a burst ball. Team tennis in Europe can get EXTREMELY tetchy (read downright aggressive) and, reading between the lines, this obviously nearly came to blows (or even did, probably).

It must have been quite a spectacle (in the good and bad sense of the word)

The Elite interclub tennis league has kicked off again in France.

Pro A and Pro B divisions are playing now.

There are no GB players in Pro A (apart from Marc Polmans who is Aussie but, for some reason, has GBR next to his name.....)

However, in Pro B, Alastair Gray is listed as third plater for Les Hauts de Nimes.

But the the first match took place last Sunday, with no Alastair (the team drew 3-3). And he's playing iTFs this week so not sure he's going to turn up for the next encounter either. But good to see his name out there.....

In the women, Tara is still on the list for Stade Clermontois. But I think that might be historical. (And she didn't play in the first match)

Just for info, the top players are about ATP and WTA 100 - Alison Van U was the highest ranked women, I think, in the women's to play last week. In the men, Pablo Andujar and Alberto Ramos V both played.

World Team Tennis is on in the States currently, but I guess it is a different type of event to this, much more commercial whereas this is much more based in the club?

I remember discussions about Marcus getting around 1,200 a weekend when he was playing for Toulouse a few years back.

Wasn't there a Futures event where you watched him, think he won a Saturday final, and then you raced him to an airport to get a flight to play club tennis on a Sunday?!

Just to say congrats to the team of Stade Toulouse who won the men's Pro A national team championships (against TC Loon PLage)

Ben Bonzi def. Lucas Pouille
Hugo Gaston def. VAN DE ZANDSCHULP Botic
Arthur Reymond lost to Henri Laaksonen
Fabien Reboul lost to Antoine Hoang

And then, with it 2-2 after the singles, Stade Toulouse won the two doubles, including one 11-9 !

The noise must have been amazing..... :)
