European League Club Tennis

Excellent win by Stuart Parker against ATP 561

Div 1A 25/11

Stuart Parker def. Botic VAN DE ZANDSCHULP ATP 561, CH 308, 6-4 6-3

Unfortunately, they lost all their other matches and the team lost 1-5.

It would be interesting to see if Stuart ever plays any pro events (I know he put up a good show at a Challenger a couple of years ago but he's barely played any ITFs, losing the few he did play, but it's a while back and he's only 21). Mind you, that's like quite a lot of club players in France, there are a ton who are ATP 1000 or so level, easily, but never play. I've no idea if he's actually based in France (he's from Jersey) but he definitely plays a lot of tennis there.

In Premiere Div, for the women, Tara won her singles 6-4 in the third

SHe played Eleanora Molinaro who, at age 18, is JWR 11, ex 8, and WTA 381 so that's an excellent result for Tara.

Conny won too, easily, against Krunic.

Tara and Conny lost their dubs though and the team drew 3-3

Found this which summarises where the French event is at

Seems to translate automatically from French to English on Chrome if you use that as your browser

Talence is a suburb of Bordeaux.

Dan confirmed as playing in the finals this saturday.

There's also a cute friendly p**s-take of Dan, and the others, as part of the celebrations after their SF win.

Click on the Colomiers video (where you see Dan) - it's all in English (or French pidgin English ) - with Dan being called a 'bad boy' (much laughter) and then a 'good boy' (because he won - always pragmatic, the French). Although the 'penguin' thing is lost on me - anyone the wiser???

I think the poor court suffered a bit of a bath.....

It was the first time Colomiers have ever won

Seemingly it all get very close and very stressy at the end.....it was Dan and Benoit who won the decisive point - the key moment when the crowd goes absolutely wild and all hell breaks out

It all kicks off in France tomorrow for National League (pre-nats have already started, I think)

Am going through the teams, Brit-spotting....

The Premier league and DN1A played in November/December.

So we now have all the rest.

There's not much of great interest in terms of current UK players.

DN1B, (still elite), has four pools of 6 teams (generally 10 players listed). Billy Harris is down for Annecy

DN2 - eight pools of 6 teams. James Allemby is on the list for Rognac; Richard Gabb is listed as top player for Clamart; Dan Cox for Ardres;

DN3 - 12 pools of 6 teams. Tom Farqharson is listed for Niort. Marcus Willis and Jack Carpenter are down for Capdenac.

DN4 - 21 pools of 6 teams. Neil Pauffley and Giles Hussey are listed for Dracenois (Gilles is down as a new arrival). Damon Roberts is there for Vignal. Josh Goodall for Beauchamp.

French tennis rankings

Hi, the addict.

I'll put a more detailed explanation in a post below. But for those who want to cut to the chase, and for those who know the LTA domestic ones, look at these chart (they're practically the same, one is the 2009 one and one the 2005 one). They give a rough equivalency between UK and France (and others)

www.swisstennis.ch/sites/default/files/itn_conversion_chart_09.pdf

www.tennisplayandstay.com/itn/itn-conversion-chart.aspx

Just to say, and from direct experience of tournament draw organisation, the equivalencies are generous to the British ranking and mean to the French one.

Bumping this to the end for easy reference, as it was a long time ago !

For the women,

DN1B has four pools of 6 teams: At Saint Gaudens, there's Eden and - new this year - Beth Grey.

DN2 has 8 pools of 6 teams: Ella Taylor is a new player for St Malo. Shelly Gerber (?) is listed for Cattenom

DN3 - 16 pools of 6 teams. Emily Appleton is on the team list for Aix. Iman Garshong is listed as a new player for Rillieuxla

It'll be interesting to see how the administrative domestic rankings pan out for the newbies ....

Was just about to send Marcus a good luck message for Capdenac on Twitter, but it looks like his account no longer exists. Interesting to see him team up with Jack who was the first GB pro I ever saw play. He was playing futures in Elche in 2010. Was that really almost 10 years ago. Wondering if Jack still wears his cap on backwards when he plays.

Great to see our Billy out there again

Men

DN1B

Billy played at number one and ended up losing in a third-set tie-break to Gianni Mina, who's a good player. Which is a bit of a heart-breaker.
But Billy+ won their dubs, and the team won 4-2.

Div 2

Dan Cox, playing number two, won in three sets against Jules Vauthier. And his dubs. and team won 5-1

Div 3

Tom Farq, playing one, thrashed Thomas Setodji, but lost dubs in a MTB. Score 3-3

At Capdenac, Marcus Willis (playing no.1) lost, Jack Carpenter (playing no.2) won but both lost their respective dubs so the team lost 2-4

Div 4

Neil P won, singles and dubs. Team won 6-0

Josh Goodall won singles and dubs. Team won 4-2

Beth won her singles, and dubs, and team won 6-0

DN2

Shelley Gerber beat a higher ranked player, very easily, lost her dubs, but team won 5-1

DN3

Iman Garshong won her singles in a third set TB, got the win in the dubs in a MTB, but it was the only two wins the team got as they lost 4-2

Women

DN 1B

Beth played number one and won her match in two sets, against Mia Eklund, which is a decent result.

Eden played number two but lost against in two against Alumdena Sanz Fernandez (?)

But they played together in the dubs and won. And the team won 5-1

DN 2

Ella, playing one, lost 2 & 1 against Luna Dormet (as above, Ella is well over-ranked in her domestic ranking, in my view)
But she won her dubs. The team lost 2-4 though.

Div 3

Iman got an easy win, playing two. But lost her dubs. The team drew 3-3
