European League Club Tennis

In the men, as well as Dan Evans, there was British interest with Stuart Parker. He played number three, and won his singles, against Ivo Klec, ex-184 (now age 37)

He also won his doubles and the team won 4-2

Also, I missed Jonny !!!

Jonny Gray played and won, beating Antso RAKOTONDRAMANGA in three sets.

He lost his doubles though, playing with Clem Larriere and the team lost 2-4

As well as those who actually played (namely Evo, Jonny and Sturat), Scott Clayton is down on the players' list but that doesn't necessarily mean he's playing.

Just to mention, Dan's team plays in the 1ere Div (two pools of 6). Stuart and Jonny play in DN1A (two pools of 6)

All the other team tennis, which involves all our other players, takes place in Spring, and covers DN1B, DN2, DN3 and DN4.

How much would someone like Dan get paid for playing and is it appearance or prizemoney based?

And do they generate money for fees through attendance at matches or team sponsorship or is some of it televised over there?

I would guess he'd get about £1500-3000 per match (and travel). But it's guess. It varies hugely. And he's only playing number 4. Some clubs have practically stopped paying altogether.

It used to be always a flat fee, but now sometimes it's win-based (or, at least, partly win-based i.e. 750 flat, and 750 extra if you win).

There's no fees for spectators and the matches are not televised.

In terms of paying, there are commercial sponsors and local council/sports council sponsors. And club fees will be used too.

Thanks CD - who are the #1-3 in Evo's team then, presumably they are a pretty strong team overall?

The players in the team play in the order of their French domestic ranking (which includes their ATP ranking but is not identical). Four singles and two doubles.

At the weekend, the team for singles was as follows:

Benoit Paire N1

Enrique Lopez Perez N18

Kenny de Schepper N19

Dan Evans N20

On the teamsheet, there is also DELLIEN Hugo N12, GIMENO TRAVER DANIEL N17, MARTIN ANDREJ N18 and KRSTIN PEDJA, also N20, so they might play some of the other matches.

Paire scraped his match in a third-set TB, against Marc Sieber. The other two won. Dan lost.

Paire didnt play doubles, Lopez Perez played with Wesley Koolhof, as team 2, and won; Dan played with Kenny, as team 1, and lost.

(Ex-Brit, Bedene, played and lost in one of the other teams, playing alongside half-Brit Furness, who won).

France's very top division (the Premiere div, not 1A) had a match day on the 14th this week:

Dan Evans turned out and got a win in the singles against half-Brit, Evan Furness, ATP 542, 6-4 7-6

He played number three this time, behind Enrique Lopez Perez and Kenny de Schepper (who both lost, as did number four, so Dan was the only one this time to get a singles win)

He didn't play the doubles, but the team won both of them, and so the team drew 3-3

In the women's, Conny and Tara lost their doubles again, but in a MTB. Conny, playing number 2, behind Dulgheru, won her singles (Shinikova and Great Arn were the other two). the team drew.

Stuart lost by a whisker to a serious up-and-comer....

In Div 1A:

Stuart Parker lost against Clem Tabur ATP 1140, born 2000, JWR 19 (ex-10), 5-7 6-2 6-4

Also lost the dubs; team lost 0-6

Jonny Gray lost by the same whisker ...

Jonathan Gray lost to Artem Smirnov, ATP 588 (ex 226) 6-4 1-6 6-4

Lost his dubs too and the team lost 2-4

Dan Evans French league tennis career is not going along in a cloud of glory....

17/11

Dan Evans lost to Daniel Munoz de la Nava, age 36, ATP 478 (CH 68) 2-6 4-6

He didn't play the doubles.

The other team guys won, though, their singles, and they won one of the two doubles, so the team won 4-2

I think it was on clay, though, inside, (they were playing away at one of the Bordeaux clubs), so that won't have helped Dan (although the team he's playing for plays on clay inside in the winter too, I'm pretty sure, so no real difference .....)

Conny and Tara def. Bonaventure and Alexandrova 7-6 6-2

but the team lost 2-4

Is there a link to top division player results, like the the LTA tournament results website? It would be interesting to see all the names of players involved.

This is the site. It's pretty straight forward (I think) but please ask if it's not.

Wow thanks, I don't know French tennis very well but there are loads of player names I recognise, I've deleted the ones I didn't recognise. What a high level for club tennis.

Let me explain it. There'a different world out there to the one you (and others) are accustomed to.

FRANCE Premiere division

21/11/18

Dan Evans lost to Sami Reinwein 4-6 3-6

Which is pretty poor.......the guy is ranked 754 !!!

However, the team didn't play him in the doubles (not surprisingly) and everyone else won, with the team winning 5-1

24/11/18

Dan Evans def. Paul-H Matthieu 6-4 6-4

His team retired in the doubles which is almost certainly nothing to do with injury but because the other dubs match must have just finished, giving his team a 4-1 lead so they abandoned their dubs match as irrelevant and took the win 4-2

Which means that Dan's team finishes top of the pool !!! (with only mixed thanks to Dan, who only won 2 matches and lost 3, but he won a key singles against Quimperle when the team got their 3-3 draw and, bottom line, a team is a team, so well done to all of them).

THis means Dan's team will play the winners of pool B (Blagnac) for the title on Dec. 1st in Bordeaux.

Blagnac also is a suburb of Toulouse so a very local derby for the title. They field, basically, a Spanish team (along with a talented French youngster). I think Dan's lot will be clear favourites.
