Interesting WC statistics, although rather like paulisi I have a largely statistics based degree and my head hurts too ! I'll maybe come back to it...
Actually 1,22% ( and yes, I too thought it might be a bit lower ) is in many ways interesting, but not that significant. What I really am alluding to is that tennis is so full of many tournaments with all these rankings, draws, nationalities etc. that to retrospectively notice a particular seemingly huge coincidence ( in this case a WC coincidence in Qatar tournaments ) is probably possible just about every day of the year, particularly in busier times of the season.
I'm a bit like Steven re the draw. Yes, we are now guaranteed a GB semi finalist, having not been seeded to have one. But the way the guys ars playing, I would kind of preferred they were in separate quarters and the see how they got on.
I reckon it's Liam's turn this time, although some head to heads just seem to have a life of their own.
Whatever, Luke will certainly be going to a new CH, possibly around WR 760, even if he loses the QF. And more parochially has now passed Lewis Burton ( 25 points to 24 ) to move into the GB top 25 on Monday week. Certainly on the up, good to see from a player many seem to have or have had reservations about.
Not to be for Matt, who has just lost 7-6 6-4 in Spain to remain GB no 27 ( looks another good effort, and yes I had forgotten about him )
I see that both Liam and Luke's ranking points are heavily weighted to the second half of this year, so good prospects of further big rises in what remains of 2013 and in the first half of 2014.

I think you are right. Liam may well pip this one......in general the draw sheet seems to have been decimated, so there will be a very good chance for the winner of the all-Brit SF to go all the way to the final or even win the tournament. I'd like to think that every time Oli enters a $10k tournament (I'm assuming Kyle will now avoid $10ks in 2014 unless he suffers a setback/injury), he will be thinking in terms of winning it, and Liam and Luke shouldn't be too far behind this in terms of their thinking............I could easily see one of our boys winning 2 of the 3 weeks in Qatar.

Oh dear, I read it back this morning and while being well aware that anyone with no statistical background was likely to find it very tough going, I thought it might be relatively clear (emphasis on the word "relatively" LOL) to those of you who did. No doubt you have to be in the mood to follow it though - my eyes glaze over reading stuff like that sometimes when on another day and in a different mood, it would all make sense.
Actually, I find things like that easier to follow when I have already thought through the problem myself, so I mainly wrote it out (at the risk of making myself look even sadder ) for Josh's benefit, since he had clearly had a good go at it and it didn't seem fair to say I thought his method wasn't quite right and the answer should be X (especially when the answers were so close) without explaining why.
As you say, considering the number of tennis tournaments held each year, 1.22% may be low but isn't that significant for something that has been noticed in hindsight. Given the number of countries holding 4 or more pro tournaments each year, you'd expect to find a run like that occurring somewhere once in a while.

In British tennis terms, LBs are becoming the initials equivalent of Joshes and Dans! Not only is Luke playing another LB in the QFs here, he'll also be replacing a different LB in the GB T25 table on Monday week.
