Emily does appear to be in pretty good form. At least I hope the QF was more about good form from her than poor form from Manisha. An overwhelming win in a GB vs GB match can often leave a quandry, and to say that that looks a great win by Emily and maybe there was something wrong with Manisha could be though of as having one's cake and eating it !
I saw some of the Em/Manisha match on the livestream. The first set was, for the most part, very good - in fact, Manisha was the more aggressive, stronger player and Em was running about a lot. I'm tempted to say that it was Em's experience and a bit of variety that made the difference (and maybe it was) but really all that seemed to happen was that Manisha missed a couple of chances at 2-2 (or round about there) and Em didn't give up and suddenly the momentum shifted and Manisha, out of nowhere, started making quite a lot of mistakes, Em started serving better and from then on it was pretty much one way. (Only saw a couple of games of the second set - all the same).
I love Emily's sheer athletic-ness - NOT the running around, defensive stuff but the very dynamic, bouncy preparation for each shot (seeing her directly after Katie B the day before was interesting as Katie B - very young of course - has a bit of the Laura going on - tall girl, some great shots but a little flat-footed and static).
It'll be an interesting Em v Em match-up against the French youngster. Salas has great fitness and court coverage and some great attack for her size but Emmanuelle has a relatively weak serve - I'm hoping Emily can put a lot of pressure on it and serve well herself.
Some great tennis at 1-1 and 2-1 and then Emmanuelle misses a couple of sitters and Emily breaks. Come on, Em, now's the moment to hammer home the advantage. . . . coz the French kid won't give up
