RE: Week 48 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

Excellent win for Katie - will almost certainly be at a career high once the points are added.

Manisha is climbing up the rankings nicely as well

There must be quite a lot of exasperated ( or more ! ) punters if bets are declared null and void if a player retires anywhere near the end of a beating.

All three have very tough matches. I'm guessing Manisha would have the best chance, followed by Em and then Katie. Em is incorrectly priced with the bookies, I have it as a 50/50 match.

If today's programme is anything to go by, Katie B and Em's matches should be streamed tomorrow.

Katie B, quite deservedly (from the latter bit I've seen) wins the first set 7-5 against the WR 578

Go on , Katie !

Manisha has lost the first set of hers 6-3

Katie played a sloppy game and lost her forehand a bit (slip in concentration after winning the tight first set ?). 0-3 down. But lots to like . . .

Weird the scoreboard is recording aces that haven't happened. I'm not sure she's served even half as many as it says.

7-5 1-6...

Don't think Cadar played much better than in the first set but Katie played worse. Time to pick it up again. smile

I thought that too ! I definitely saw one service winner that suddenly clicked up as an ace. I reckon the umpire is just hitting the ace button on his gizmo for all the service winners . . .

It was a poor set from Katie but that's experience for you - she's got some lovely tennis. Manisha seems to be having a real ding-dong though - was a break down and got it back - long games, now 3-3

Yup indeed she has. Better concentration and consistency will come in time you'd think with her still being only 17.

3 breaks in a row in the decider 1-2*

Come on Katie. Come on Manisha.

Edit: 5 breaks in a row 2-3*

Manisha *5-5

Brilliant scrapping from Manisha to take the second set 7-5

katie having trouble with her regular ground strokes, especially on the FH side but hitting some great attacking shots and still right in there - 3-4* to Cadar

Katie broke back to make it 4-4 but got re-broken

Cadar served for it had a match point but Katie saves it and breaks for 5-5.

But Cadar breaks again and will serve for it again 5-6*

It was terribly close but, overall, I think ET just about deserved it - her gameplan was more established (no surprise that she won the MP serving yet another wide swinging leftie serve that katie had had huge trouble with all match).
Katie will be very disappointed but it's still very clearly a 'work in progress' - lots of things to work on. Huge well done to her though - she played some great stuff.

Our youngest woman on tour has given it her best shot; now it's up to our oldest woman on tour !

(Sorry, Em, sounds horrid but there's something to be proud of there !).

2-1* up and streamed.

PS don't think Freya counts as 'on tour' - mind you, not sure Katie B does either. But it sounds better that way :)
