RE: Week 48 - ITF ($10K) - Rethymno, Greece Hard

The Romanian had won 10 of the previous 11 games but Beth just saved match points to prevent a 3rd set bagel. 6-3 6-7(4) 1-5*

Good news for Katy - very consistent at the moment and playing to her ranking.

Didn't realise Beth hadn't got the seeded player. That match was very winnable, but it looks like she couldn't get across the finish line.

Harriet has just lost the first set 6-3 against the top seed, but it's very competitive judging by the scores.

Harriet won the 2nd set ... but is a double break down in the decider.

So close to three GB winners here today, with a particularly good effort from Harriet against the top seed, but in the end just one survives.

L16: Harriet Dart UNR lost to (1) Margarita Lazareva (RUS) WR 397 (CH 338 in Apr) by 6-3 4-6 6-2
L16: (5) Katy Dunne WR 702 beat Maria Siopacha (CYP) UNR (16yo JWR 382) by 2 & 1
L16: (Q) Sarah Beth Askew UNR lost to Raluca Georgiana Serban (ROU) UNR (16yo JWR 421) by 3-6 7-6(4) 6-3

QF: (5) Katy Dunne WR 702 v Sonja Larsen (GER) WR 992 (CH 977 in Oct; 18yo, junior top 100 when she was 15)

Larsen upset 4th seed Frlicka today. Now 18, she was a top 100 junior when she was 15 but gave up playing juniors almost as soon as she turned 16. She seems to be trained (or possibly just mentored) by Nicolas Kiefer, who in July described her as 'manchmal schon zu lieb' (sometimes a bit too nice) - not a 'trap' he ever fell into ...

Katy tweets that singles has been rained off for the day here.

QF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 5 702 beat LARSEN, Sonja (GER) 992 6-0 6-0

SF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 5 702 v LAZARAEVA, Margarita (RUS) 1 397 (CH=338 April 2013)

Earlier this year Lazareva lost 0 & 1 to Naomi B in Nigeria, beat Mel S in three in Indonesia and lost to Anne K 0 & 2 in Mexico, she won one $10K in Kazakhstan against opponents ranked no higher than 839. The way she is playing Katy should have a good chance of upsetting the top seed.

Into the MTB and at 1-1, they have won 52 points each and both are exactly 50:50 on serve.
