SF: (1) Marcus Willis WR 357 lost to (8) Nikola Cacic (SRB) WR 654 by 7-6(3) 6-3
SF: (5) Oli Golding WR 556 beat (2) Bastian Trinker (AUT) WR 477 by 6-4 6-4
Final: (5) Oli Golding WR 556 v (8) Nikola Cacic (SRB) WR 654 (CH 350 in 2012)
Super victory for Oli, I last looked at the score with him 4-1 down, couldn't believe he's just won in straight sets. Shame for Marcus, though not a bad week overall with the doubles win as well.
Oli will now go up to about WR 440 and if, if, he were to win it, he'd be back to about his CH.
Well done, Oliver, and good luck.
edit: and Marcus should get the prize for 'prediction of the week' - didn't he say he foresaw a doubles title and at least 6 points in the singles ? Wonder who he recommends for the Grand National next year ?

Never mind the National, he should be predicting winning Wimbledon singles and doubles
Oli has certainly shown really good form since he came back. Injury free, playing on hard courts and getting a bit of confidence, great to see !
Looks one final step too far for Marcus, but he got his 6 points and doubles title so a relatively satisfying conclusion to his season. Hope he has a good close season and then in 2014 we begin to get a better idea of how far he might really go.
Another great win for Oli and it's fantastic to see him back in form again after what must have been a pretty frustrating year. Really looking forward to seeing what he can do in 2014.
Disappointing for Marcus, particularly after that first set, but interesting to see that he hit both of his targets.

Now for Oli to make it 10 straight wins.
Good luck to Ollie
Marcus has a satisfactory end to a year which outperformed both our expectations
Year end 2 new PBs singles c346 ( 1012 end 2012)
Doubles c322 ( 890 end 2012 ) . Marcus also demonstrated his great Team spirit captainIng A1 pharmaceuticals to the aegon regional title , promotion to the national tier , he also helped his french club & county promotion . A1 also secured WC to the premier national indoors finals .
We have after much experimention developed a great partnership with Kent no1 Lewis burton they topped the GB futures league with 8 titles each 6 together in under 3 months
Congratulations to Marcus & Lewis
Look forward to continuing our support & watching your progress in the new year
It is great that with the A1 assistance Marcus's career has turned round again so much.
Of course, with his junior career and being ranked at the end of 2009, aged 19, WR 606 for singles and WR 378 for doubles, the following few years had been disappointing, particularly the anomaly of him being ranked so low at the end of 2012.
He certainly seems on a good path now, back much more in line with his early promise, and hopefully he will continue to make real progress in 2014 and see what he can do in challengers.
Oli appears to be having yet another very bad serving day.......but is a set up and was a break up too (until yet more DFs - that's now 10 - levelled things up at 2-2 second set). 10 DFs in a set and a haf is not good enough, but it does suggest that the rest of his game must really be firing.............and if the serve becomes a real weapon, 2014 could be huge for him.
edit: and as if to reinforce the point, he breaks again to serve at *3-2
