Week 46 - Greece F19 ($10,000) - Heraklion (hard)

So it's an all-Brit final.

Great week for Oli - well done. Can't have been easy for anyone with all that rain delay.

And lovely to see the two Ls going to the wire in the third. Luke's just broken to go 4*-3 up but you wouldn't rule out Liam - he's probably still favourite to come back and win it.

edit: actually, looking at bet365 Luke is the overwhelming favourite. (I have a sneaking preference for him to win but I think Luke does bottle it a bit - odds of 4 to 1 for Liam seem generous!)

Hehe do you mean as Luke served for the match.

Easy to mix up but at least their names aren't Dan or Josh smile

Tiebreak... pressure, tension. Who will come out on top?

Oli has taken the first set as has Luke, but they are both a break down in the second set.

Oli wins 6-3 6-4 to set up an all GB final and move another step closer to getting back into the top 500.

Not bad. 3 left in the tournament and they are all GB, aged 20 or less.

Been a good week for British men's tennis, both here and in the US, a very good week !

Looking at the entry list for Greece next week, it's not very strong again. No reason why Oli or Liam cannot go deep again. No bambo though...

And (predictably??) as Liam serves for the match, he gets broken and now it's 5-5

SF:  Oli Golding WR 575 defeated Miki Jankovic (SRB) WR 585 by 3 & 4 smile
SF:  Luke Bambridge WR 860 defeated (8) Liam Broady WR 531 by 6-2 3-6 7-6(2)  biggrin  bleh

Luke served for the match at 5-4 in the decider, but was unable to serve it out, being broken to 30.  The tie-break, though, looks as though it was more or less a cakewalk! wink

*****

Final:  Oli Golding WR 575 vs Luke Bambridge WR 860

I have the BIGGEST problem with Luke and Liam - what is it with me ???  This is NOT the first time . . . cry

However, Luke (yes, double check, Luke) wins the tie-break. Excellent match. Excellent result for him. Excellent week in Greece for the men. Good luck to both in the final (and in the dubs first). And Liam will be on form for next week too.

Great stuff from Luke, definite top 500 material in the next few months.
