Boys & Girls: Mesika Junior Open, Israel - Grade 3 (Week 46)

The week's top grade event sees Emily Smith and Mason Recci in action again. Perversely though Emily was seeded in the G2 event, the G3 is actually stronger, and she is therefore unseeded (there was more choice of tournaments last week) and faces a potentially tricky R2 match as a result. Mason will again probably face top seed Martin Blasko in round 2 if successful in his opener.

Boys R1 (L32)

Mason Recci (GBR) v (WC) Ram Kapach (ISR)

Girls R1 (L32)

Emily Smith (GBR) v May Kimhi (ISR)

Disappointment for Mason, but Emily plays tomorrow at 7.30am GMT with live scores available probably at www.ita.co.il/news.php

Boys R1 (L32)

(WC) Ram Kapach (ISR) d. Mason Recci (GBR) 6-2 6-3

Girls R1 (L32)

Emily found it tough going but prevailed in the end. As expected she faces the fifth seed, who beat Emily in a Spanish G3 last month

Girls R1 (L32)

Emily Smith (GBR) d. May Kimhi (ISR) 4-6 6-1 6-4

R2

Emily Smith (GBR) v (5) Inger Van Dijkman (NED)

Good start. Let's see how much she's learnt from the last match?

Usually when I make comments along those lines it transpires that the other player wins more convincingly. Your words proved to have a more positive influence on the outcome  smile  As a result Emily sets up a repeat of last week's G2 final.

R2

Emily Smith (GBR) d. (5) Inger Van Dijkman (NED) 4-6 7-6(4) 6-3

QF

(1) Justina Mikulskyte (LTU) v Emily Smith (GBR)

Emily again shows considerable resilience to come through a tight match for another fine win. Next up is the Dutch girl who reached the semis of last week's G2

QF

Emily Smith (GBR) d. (1) Justina Mikulskyte (LTU) 6-4 1-6 7-5

SF

Emily Smith (GBR) v Roos Van Der Zwaan (NED)

Not today you're not cry However her run has put her in a position where she can crack the top 100 next week if she does well in the second Israel G3.

SF

Roos Van Der Zwaan (NED) d. Emily Smith (GBR) 6-2 6-1

Ah well can't always work. Maybe Em ran out of steam a bit. Hope she can gain some more points next week.

The 97's seem to have come alive these past few months much like the 96's did this time last year
